In the years 1765 to 1783 Americans were fighting for their independence. Britain finally decided to take its role as a mother country after many years of salutary neglect. The American Revolution was revolutionary because colonist fought for a change in the way the government was set up. The colonies were a part of Great Britain, so they still had to respond to Britain even if it was unfair. Britain's greatest mistake was taxing the colonists. The different acts that were passed to collect taxes angered the colonists little by little until they finally exploded. The Boston Tea Party was a type of protest against one of those taxes. Colonist chose to waste the tea instead of buying it. The colonists were forced to revolt against Britain by all the injustices they made, like the Boston Massacre. British soldiers were not able to hold back their anger and shot 5 people. The colonists didn't want the government to have this amount of power, so they fought to change that. King George III promised the land west of the Appalachian Mountains to the colonist after the Seven Years War. However, Britain passed the Proclamation of 1763, which prohibited colonist from settling west of the Appalachian Mountains, right after the war. In the …show more content…
A recognized patriot was Patrick Henry. He saw that the colonists were strong enough to fight against their mother country. Henry preached for a revolution in his “Give me Liberty Speech” in 1775. In fact, he is well remembered for saying “give me liberty or give me death”. Colonists were tired of the way the British government treated them. What the colonists actually desired was to have a say in the government. Galloway’s Plan of Union shows how the American government was formed around not giving the government too much power. Gordon S. Wood also shows how the United States was transformed after the revolution in his book "The Radicalism of the American
Thomas Paine's common sense pamphlet was influential and had a crucial part in the American Revolution. The american revolution was started for a number of reasons, but I think it was mostly because of the Townshend Acts. These acts were what caused the colonists to act against the British, one of the most popular acts that the colonists rebelled against was called the Tea Act. these Townshend Acts were made to fix Britain's debt in the British East India company. These Townshend Acts put a tax on imported goods like glass, paint, oil, paper and tea, making merchants make less of a profit getting the colonists angry.
(William S. Price) Most of the colonists did not want to become an independent country. They supported Britain’s laws, they even supported them after the wars they started. Others did not care and was just happy the be free. after the French and Indian War British government tried to reassert their government to have more control over the colonists.
The American Revolution was also known as the war of independence. In the 1775 and 1783 there was a fight between thirteen british colonies and their mother country was England. At the time England was the strongest country. The american revolution was revolutionary. War took place, The American Revolution caused a war it took place between 1775 and 1783.
The American Revolution, French Revolution, and seventeenth-century English revolutions were similar in the aspects of governmental systems, influences from European philosophies and religion, and military forces. Alike in opposition, each revolution had a desire to revolt due to poor ruling monarchies and lack of progression. All their attempts to topple the monarch power were to establish a new governing system. While doing so, each revolution was influenced by the emerging philosophy of Europe, the Age of Enlightenment. The Age of Enlightenment brought to light on the importance of liberty and rights of common people.
Throughout the course of history, Britain and its colony in America were never truly one united being leading to major alterations after the French and Indian War. Firstly, the roots of the major alterations can be traced to the early days of the colonies. Many colonies were founded off people who believed that they would have a better life in an unknown land, showing their desperateness. Slightly further into colonial history, Britain would dump its prisoners in the American colonies. Because of this, it can be seen that Britain saw the American colonies as a garbage dump of the ‘failures of England’.
The British colonized a land, what is now called the United States of America, back in 1607. They ruled over the natives for another century before the Native Americans realized that they wanted to be treated differently. They wanted freedom and so they revolted. The factors that contributed to the eventual separation of the colonists from the British were the colonists’ dissatisfaction with the acts imposed by the British after the French and Indian war, the battles fought between the colonists and the British, and the difference in the political wants of the colonists. After the British won the French and Indian war, they had to impose certain acts in order to make up for the financial losses in the war.
Prior to the American Revolution, the American People were under the rule of the British government. Due to the mistreatment, the Americans wanted to rebel and become free of British rule. In order to do so, they partook in the event of the American Revolution. During the American Revolution, there were many smaller battles and war within the overall war to achieve freedom. For Instance, the first battle was the Battle of Lexington and Concord.
The American Revolution was caused by the change of British policies and colonists seeking representation. England started to tax new settled colonists on every item possible. Colonists tried their best to work something out with England to get independence they wanted. With not much luck, the Revolutionary War emerged to fight for independence from 1763-1783. The war between Great Britain and colonists ended up being successful with the independence that was declared which resulted in the United States of America.
Due to numerous conflicts that Great Britain and America had, had with each other; American had finally decided to attempt to declare independence from Great Britain. With all the laws and (several) acts trying to be passed through congress that had caused Americans to become exasperated with Great Britain. America felt that Great Britain did not really have their best interest in mind. Not a single one of these laws were not in thee American’s favor. American’s had finally decided to enough was enough.
Benjamin Franklin stated,” We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately.” The division between the British and the British colonists led to the American Revolution. The Navigation Acts of 1660, the French and Indian War, Pontiac’s Rebellion and the Proclamation of 1763, the Sugar Act of 1764 and the Stamp Act of 1765 were some things that lead the Revolution. The Declaratory Act, the Townshend Act, the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party, and the Intolerable Acts of 1774 were some more factors that lead to the Revolution. All of the taxes and conflicts lead to the American Revolution; however, not all of the colonists wanted war.
1 Before, During, and After the American Revolution The American Revolution was a major event for the founding of the United States of America. The events leading up to it, during it, and even after it had major effects on the foundation of this country. During the years of 1754-1763 the French and Indian War was a war between the British Empire and their Native allies and the French Empire and their Native allies.
Patriots were pro-Revolution, meaning they supported American independence and were prepared to separate from England in order to achieve their goal. In Document 3, Samuel Adams voices his support for the Patriot cause when he says, “All men have a right to remain in a state of nature as long as they please; and in case of intolerable oppression, civil or religious, to leave the society they belong to… [men] have a right to demand and insist upon the performance of such conditions.” By stating this, Adams is promoting the idea of self government by insisting that men have the right to leave a government or society in which they feel oppressed or feel as though their natural human rights are being violated. This idea clearly supports the colonists who were fighting to gain independence from England. Moreover, in Document 6, Charles Inglis provides an economic perspective to motivate other colonists to want to separate from Britain.
When the mid-1700’s past, growing frustrations in the British North American Colonies grew due to taxes being set on essential parts of life that colonists could not get by. With no representation when these taxes were set, colonists, from yeoman farmers to aristocrats, revolted and started an uprising. The American Revolution is a historical event that is glorified in classrooms from young to old, but some historians argue that it wasn’t revolutionary at all. The American Revolution was revolutionary in nature to some, such as aristocratic white men, while it was not revolutionary in nature to many, such as black slaves. The American Revolution was revolutionary in nature to aristocratic white men who had been governed by a monarchical
George Washington said, “Government is not reason; it is not eloquence; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.” Government may not always do what you want it to and back in the 1700s things were a little different. Britain was the colonies government and quite a lot of the colonist didn 't agree with the choices Britain made. Often times the colonist tried to fight against Britain by boycotting and protesting.
Soon after the Seven Years’ War, the British and the colonists learned that victory came with a rather expensive price (Kennedy, Cohen, & Bailey, 2010). Great Britain tightened its grip on the colonies in North America, expecting colonists to pay for their financial struggles. In order to make colonists pay for the war, Great Britain reminded the North American colonies who had authority by controlling the colonists to submit to various ordinances ratified by British Parliament. This action only showed that arrogance leads to rebellion socially, economically, and politically. Socially, a lack of communication between Great Britain and the North American colonies was to blame for the Revolutionary War.
