The American Revolution was a war between the American colonist and the British that took place from 1775 to 1983 and where the colonists were seeking to acquire independence from Britain. Political, diplomatic, and military standpoints resulted in a successful American Revolution for the colonists. The Second Continental Congress, Thomas Paine’s Common Sense, and the Declaration of Independence were just a few of the political factors that led to a successful American Revolution. When the Second Continental Congress began, British troops attacked the American fortifications on Breed’s Hill and Bunker Hill. In response, “John Adams exhorted the Congress to rise to the “defense of American liberty” by creating a continental army. The French Alliance was significant due to Benjamin Franklin’s part as well as standards from the treaty. While Franklin was part of the alliance, himself and other American diplomats “craftily exploited France’s rivalry with Britain to win an explicit commitment to American independence” (Henretta, Hinderaker, Edwards, Self 190). Revealing this rivalry managed to bring France to America’s side and benefit them in the war. The alliance between France and America intimidated the British and made them realize that the two countries together could destroy them. To illustrate this, “The Treaty of Alliance of February 1778 specified that once France entered the war, neither partner would sign a separate peace without the “liberty, sovereignty, and independence” of the United States” (Henretta, Hinderaker, Edwards, Self 190). France did a great deal to help the American colonists during their war for independence from the United Kingdom. It is possible to argue that the American colonists would not have won the war if it had not been for the French assistance. The French did not get involved in the American Revolution right away. The French did want to support the Americans because they wanted to hurt Great Britain (which was their main enemy in Europe).
The American colonies encountered a challenge during the American Revolution that resulted in a need for international support and diplomacy. America required an alliance with France in order to have a chance to defeat the British Empire. After France’s loss to its enemy, England during the Seven Years War and the American’s victory in the Battle of Saratoga, they now have a motive to support America’s fight for independence. In 1778, the French decided to join the Americans to help weaken the British’s Empire and to gain access to trading posts of the New World that they lost during the French and Indian War. Fortuneatly, the French were able to assist the American’s in holding off some British navy from the battles of the American Revolution.
The Treaty of Paris was represented in Paris in a hotel named Hotel d'York. The Continental Congress called five member to negotiate the treaty. The British and the Americans that represented their country was Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, John Jay and David Hartley. The Treaty of Paris is important in history because it helped stop the wars like the American Revolution that started in 1765 and with the Treaty it brought more hope to the colonists. It states, “The treaty is named for the city in which it was negotiated and signed.
France decided to form an alliance with the colonists not long after the American Revolution began, helping to make the Americans stronger. The alliance with the French helped raise the colonists’ spirits and many colonists were consistently determined to gain independence from Britain. With an alliance with such a powerful country and being leaded by the amazing George Washington helped the Continental Army stay strong and keep fighting. Being right at home gave the colonists many advantages.
