I am an eighth grader at Jericho Middle School. In my ELA class, I read the book The Other Wes Moore. My hobbies are playing piano and video games. Also, I enjoy running and swimming. My favorite subject is science. When I read the first couple pages of this book I was intrigued. The fact that you grew up to a Rhodes Scholar, decorated veteran, White House Fellow, and business leader but someone with the same name and a similar childhood ended up a convicted murderer was really interesting. I wanted to know what caused the one of the Wes’s to to live a life of crime. My favorite thing about the book was how detailed the other Wes Moore’s life was. I yours was very descriptive because you lived it and you could ask your family. I knew that you interviewed him but, you wrote about his life as if you were there for every moment. One example, was when Wes saw that Cheryl was high on heroin. “She lay on the couch, saliva dripping out of her mouth onto her red Gap T-shirt, her pupils dilated and rolling to the back of her head, heroin still flowing through her veins.” I was able to easily picture that. It was almost as if I was standing right beside her. If it wasn’t for your mother, Joy, you could have end up like the other Wes Moore. You started to change when your mother took on multiple job to save enough money to sent you to Valley Forge Military Academy. Before that, you and the other Wes Moore were pretty similar. Both of you were involved with drugs. The other Wes Moore also had family influence but, it was weaker and his brother, Tony, even though he told Wes to stay out of drugs, had a bad influence on Wes because Tony was drug dealer.
