Community as a construct is very broad and viably applied to the needs of people in its traditional context. As Postman said, “People are quite capable of adapting to all sorts of changes; soldiers adapt themselves to killing, children adapt themselves to being fatherless, women can adapt themselves to being abused”. Certainly, adaptation does not have to be gruesome or extreme as Postman’s examples, one can adapt to an assortment of situations and context. Who is to say that the definition of what community entails and provides as a social construct is not malleable to the needs of the present? As Zuckerberg said, quoted in Thompson’s article, “…Social norms catching up with what technology is capable of”, it is plausible to suggest that community, in terms of the preserving social harmony, is found in social

Generosity and the ambition to help other people are what the staff of Su Casa and the Catholic Worker Movement still share to this day. The Catholic Worker Movement was created by Dorothy Day and Peter Maurin in 1933, and their main goal was to provide justice and charity for those who are considered poor during the time. Though they had a wide description of who they called poor, they didn’t turn anyone away who needed help. Decades has passed since then, and Su Casa, a shelter to help women who have been victims of domestic violence, still display the ideas of helping those in need. Although Su Casa has diverged from many practices that the Catholic Worker Movement stood by in Dorothy Day’s Loaves and Fishes, Su Casa still has the same ideals

Rudolf Steiner once said, “A healthy social life is found only, when in the mirror of each soul the whole community finds its reflection”. Steiner believes for there to be a community, everyone must find their own distinct society and discover the true meaning of becoming a community. A discourse community understands one another and shares a common belief, goal, and value by providing positive traits to the community and to help build a stronger and more connected community through a common interest. Others say a discourse community is all about fitting in, getting accepted and being able to prove to yourself and the interest group you belong to the certain community. Some might say who cares about working in the health care field or why bother
SOCIAL EFFICIENCY IDEOLOGY Introduction: The Social Efficiency ideology has its origins in four movements: social reform, utilitarian education, behavioral psychology, and scientific mythology (Callahan, 1962). The Social Efficiency ideology (SE) believes that the initial purpose of schooling is to meet the needs of society. Curriculum developers and educators who adopted the Social Efficiency Ideology view the curriculum as an instrument that prepares students to be contributing members of society and support the view that schools are places where students are prepared for a meaningful adult life. The fundamental concern of the Social Efficiency Ideology is scientific instrumentalism.
The concept of interpenetration implies that, however important logical closure may be as a theoretical ideal, empirically social systems are conceived as open systems, engaged in complicate processes of interchange with environing systems (an outline of the social system). The environing systems are cultural, personality systems, the physical environment and the behaviour of the other subsystems. This idea also applies to social systems and their subsystems each of which is an open systems changing with the environing subsystems of a larger system. Parsons believes that society is a system that is bigger than the individual person and as we come and go, are born and then die society will always exist. Society will continue to grow and expand long after we are gone.

Community, has many meanings. The definition I think most appropriate to this essay would be ‘A reasonable interpretation of the word’s use would seem to imply two related suggestions: that the members of a group of people (a) have something in common with each other, which (b) distinguishes them in a significant way from the members of other putative groups. ‘Community’ thus seems to imply simultaneously both similarity and difference.’ (Cohen, 1985, p. 12) Cohen views community as a system of values, norms and moral codes.
What is a community? A community is a group of people who have at least one characteristic in common, whether it is their beliefs, race, country of origin etc. In our life, we are a part of many communities whether it was by choice such as a dance group or school club, or not such as the country we were born in. A lot of communities have their own holidays such as Christmas which was originally a Christian tradition but it has spread to other communities such as Catholics and atheists, and Anzac day which is celebrated by Australians and New Zealanders.
