Transferring to the University of New Hampshire would mean finally taking that giant step in my journey toward becoming a great engineer. Throughout my time in high school, I knew what my strengths were, and what I enjoyed. I did not however, know what I wanted to study when it was time to go to college. That changed when I learned more about the field of engineering. I knew instantly it was the correct path for me. As soon as it was possible, I changed my future major at Gateway Community College from automotive repair, to engineering. It was the only way I would be able to satisfy my constant curiosity and desire for challenge, while also using my strengths for math, physics, and problem solving. Having graduated with my associate’s degree, I am now more than ready to transfer to UNH. …show more content…
While I was taking classes to become an engineer, I was also employed full-time as an automotive technician. I worked my way to becoming a top level technician in the automotive field, learned all I could in class, and started a family. I am proud of what I accomplished, and I know it was the right thing for the people who count on me the most. I truly believe that by working hard and becoming highly knowledgeable in a skilled trade, doing my best to raise a family, and constantly researching engineering and physics out of my own curiosity, I have become as prepared to succeed at the University of New Hampshire as possible. I do know that my performance in class was affected in the process. I am not proud of some of my grades, but I am completely confident in the amount I have learned, and my self as a
I want to be admitted into UW Oshkosh to help me have a better education and brighter future. My high school diploma is the foundation of my education but my college education will be the main structure for my future. UW Oshkosh will provide me with more than just a degree, it will provide me with an experience that I don’t think I can find in any other college. I know UW Oshkosh is the right college for me. I am a good student for UW Oshkosh because I plan to be an involved member of the Oshkosh campus community, I am a hard worker, and I know getting a degree is how I will obtain a career I want.
How could I channel my extreme energy and enthusiasm into a specific course of study in order to best accomplish my goals? And the same hot-topic question on the minds of nearly all high school upperclassmen: Which college did I want to attend? As the letters and emails flooded in from colleges and universities all across the United States, it seemed like an overwhelming task to choose just one. Narrowing my interest down to chemical engineering still left countless potential paths of study, and countless problems to be solved. I researched the applications of chemical engineering: medicine, electronics, food processing, and countless more.
I believe that I have been academically successful throughout my high school years. However, this success did not come naturally to me, it is something I had to work hard to achieve. Over many school years, I have worked to maintain high-grade marks and test scores. At Nicolet, I have maintained a 3.8 GPA in honors and accelerated placement classes. I am very proud of the academic accomplishments I have achieved through challenging myself with difficult courses and balancing my extracurricular activities.
I knew once I stepped through those doors that was home for me. Two weeks later I transferred and started January 4, 2016 the first day back from Christmas break. I was ecstatic, happy, and nervous, but I knew I made the right choice and every day after that has been fantastic. I played sports every season, I joined clubs, and most importantly found happiness. I am into to my senior year and it is flying by like a cheetah on skies.
My mother graduated from Arizona State University and has never regretted this decision. Similarly, there has never been a time in my life where I doubted if achieving a college education was the right path for me. I am a determined, passionate and driven student. I have continuously surpassed testing benchmarks and have currently earned a 3.4 GPA. Furthermore, I am confident that I will have no problem committing and mastering these college classes.
This is because I question if I could have done a better job of compartmentalizing my personal struggles with family matters and mental health. This is something I have struggled with, but I am proud of the performance I put forth, because I know that even staying in college seemed to difficult at times. More than that I value the experience as it slowly taught me how to compartmentalize at a high level, something that I know will be useful for a career in
I realize now that I cared more about my GPA and scores than actually learning. Being a member of the National Honor Society has reignited my passion for education. Surrounding myself with peers and advisors who are able to do well in school and also have a love for knowledge and learning has inspired me to revert to my elementary school self and begin to enjoy the privilege of learning in school and at
Deciding to attend Texas A&M University was both a hardship and immense, opportunity in my life. Coming from a close knit background, and possessing a very family oriented character, my decision to come to this incredible institution was one out of my comfort zone. If I was to be asked one year ago, If I could ever see myself standing on this marvelous campus, attending one of the top schools in the nation, I would have honestly responded, no. My counselors would have said no, my friends, my college advisor, my family. The answer would not have been yes, not because I wasn 't capable of meeting the standards to attend, but because there seemed more obstacles in my way than there was forces pushing me forward.
When I first graduated high school I thought I wanted to be a pilot to fly airplanes, so I signed up to attend classes at Kishwaukee College located in DeKalb. ECC helped me sing up for classes at an in district rate because Elgin could not offer the courses that I wanted to me. During the first semester I found out that I did not want to become a pilot anymore and that I would be happier if I changed and focused on computer science. The advisors helped me schedule classes back at ECC for computer science then next semester. During the last year and a half at ECC I have been able to start fulfilling my education goals by getting a good education and find out what I want to go to college for.
I do not that not let any setbacks or obstacles interfere with my education. I have maintain a 3.7 GPA despite of my after school job during my junior year. My mom told me during my tenth grade year that my junior year was going to either make me or break me. She explained I had to be really on top of my studies and I had no room for small mistakes.
“I’m going to go to Italy and take BUL3310 and also MAN4340”, I blurted out to my friends as we talked about our future endeavors. I remember saying this but not knowing how to really put those words into actions. Going to Florida State University, I wanted to take advantage of more than just the football games. I wanted to be able to travel, grow, and learn. Maximizing my resources is an important trait to have in regards to actually being in college.
Attending a college or university can be a pleasurable four years or it can be path of frustration and indecision. I have spent the past year at Albany College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences thinking I wanted to be a doctor. College is expensive and when I started pondering changing my major it just didn’t seem practical. As a second semester sophomore changing my major would potentially mean spending more time in school which in return means more student loans and prolong starting a career. Not only would I be changing my major, I will be changing schools completely.
That same feeling of excitement and fear I had felt when I first moved to Florida surfaced when I attended a full-time dual enrollment program at Florida International University (FIU). It was particularly the fear of the unknown and unexpected that intimidated me. However, I enjoyed being surrounded by a college campus due to the rigorous level of academics, respect, and maturity around me. Additionally, I enrolled in sciences courses in FIU such as chemistry and chemistry lab, where my passion for science soared. I then knew that I have a true potential in attending medical school and becoming a surgeon in the future.
Also I believe that this school has also helped me to know what path to go on in my journey of becoming an engineer. This school has helped me learn what courses that I should take as well as what path to go in when it comes to being an engineer. I really enjoy engineering and I hope that when I grow up I will be able to reach my goal of becoming a biomedical engineer. I believe that when I become a biomedical engineer I would be able to create things for people all over the
Not only was I proud of what I learned in those classes, but I was recognized and rewarded for it as well. My goal could be achieved; my hard work could be rewarded. This realization gave me more confidence in my academics. I now feel driven by the fact what I set my mind to can be achieved when I give it my best effort, and believe in ability more
