Colorguard or winterguard is a sport of the arts that can be performed by all genders, and of all ages. It is a performance based activity that utilizes dance movements, hand-eye coordination, technique, and talent. Despite being ostracized sometimes by the ignorant people at school, colorguard has shaped me into a better person through keeping me active and in shape, giving me amazing best friends, and teaching me discipline. Color guard is a strenuous activity that involves a lot of cardio such as running and dancing with flags, sabres, and rifles. Because of colorguard, I was able to exercise to my full capacity even to the point of feeling like passing out. The team works their body to the extreme as every dance move is done with passion and the drive to perform and generate applause from the audience. Besides cardio, guard also allows members to …show more content…
This year, on the other hand, their are 20 enthusiastic members compared to last year’s 15. The team, due to multiple days and hours of practice, gets to bond and know each and every member personally. The members become really close with each other that we treat everyone as our sisters and brother. And the friendship that builds, even extends pass through the high school experience as I saw from members that graduated. The guard practices typically 15 hours a week, but on competition weeks, it rises up to 20 hours. And during this practices, the instructors clearly enforces everyone to be there, no excuses allowed. Due to this, everyone in the team has a mindset of never missing practice as it does not only affect themselves, but hurts every member of the color guard. The discipline instilled in everyone is viable as we grow up as adults and enter the work force. The team not only learns discipline, but it also grasps the concept of time management, team work,
Coaches often choreogragh and help squads rehearse the routines. Competitive teams also use tumbling, Lifts, tosses, and
Second, The Stanford Prison Experiment was a psychological study that was too inhumane to continue because of the behavior of the prison guards when handed with superiority and the mental breakdowns of the prisoners. E: “Now, you 'll all be given sunglasses and uniforms to give the prisoners a sense of a unified, singular authority… And from this point forward you should never refer to this as a study or experiment again,’’ (Dr. Phil Zimbardo).
When lots of kids spend a lot of time together during practices, classes, and competitions, they really learn to be close to one another. One man or woman cannot possibly run an entire group of about one hundred kids doing who knows what; so then some of the kids that are either the oldest, more experienced, or more talented. This means those kids learn responsibility and leadership. The forms on the field don’t just happen, every person has to move the same way, have the same horn angle, same toe height. Every person out there, they have to work together, it is not just an individual attempt.
Color Guards’ Amazing History! People know that during half time at football games two bands play and in the band there are the color guard. No one ever stops to think about them and how they came to be. The fans just know that they are there most likely to just entertain them. They never stop to think twice as to how color guard was made and the big meaning behind it all.
Kieran has a cousin in the NBA. Luke can run a mile in under six minutes. I also saw how Tyler, my brother, interacted with kids on his team and how they forged friendships through baseball. As a team we had many ups and downs. We won close games; we lost close games.
To make shoulder to shoulder contact every time and to not lead with their elbows or hit to the head. When I see a bantam player during practice or a game not hitting properly we pull them aside and reteach them.
There has been links to effective teams and academic performance. “Middle schools have successfully improved student performance when they have also had a common decision-making vision that led to creative, inviting, supportive, and safe school environment.” (Erb, T. O, 2006, pg 7) Getting to know students well and to take into consideration their needs as well as changes they are
Without that discipline how could I expect to have any discipline throughout the rest of my life? Discipline is taught through every sport it just takes someone special to completely follow through on it.
The human mind is a very complex organ which contains many psychological components that are infinite to comprehend. Social constructionism is a field that can be broken down into two different paths, socials and psychological behavior. The two films the Stanford Prison Experiment and The Hunting Ground are good examples of both of these processes. The topics of these films are very relevant to the field of psychology due to their contribution to our everyday psychological brain functions.
The dangers of football can be decreased by increasing the padding in the protective garments for football players, providing education for football players on the dangers and injuries that can occur, and having daily medical checkups for the players. These tactics will protect the football player from the dangers of the sport of football. The sport of football has many risks and dangers; however, if the protective gear of the players had more padding, than the players would be more protected. The padding would create a small barrier between colliding players and would absorb some of the force from the tackle. In the article, “High School Football’s Benefits Outweigh the Risks,” Ed.
There, we complete drill after drill after drill to perfect technique. We practice all of our dances multiple times, and at the end, we drill all of our jumps, spins, and turns. Classes last hours, all with little time to rest in between dances. This is to build stamina. Dancers are required to keep the appearance of energy up on stage, so that they can complete the dance well without seeming tired.
We have three different levels of teams—freshman, junior varsity, and varsity. We accept new members each year and train them, so within the next couple of years they become the experienced members of the team. With each team we have a coach—these coaches also shared the duty of being a coach for the other teams too in my case, but were dedicated to us when it was our time to play on the court. The typical case is mainly trying out and then starting as a player on the freshman team and making your way up till you are experienced enough to make the top level varsity team. That way as experienced members leave, they are replaced by the newer members who have been gaining experience to replace
To most kids and students, competitive sports are a gateway to blow off some steam or to have fun. To parents, the sports that their children play and the lessons that they teach are an important part of their development and life. Despite what many ‘experts’ would like you to believe, both of these statements are completely true. I believe that kids should be allowed to play competitive sports due to the health benefits, the lessons that they can teach, and as a result of the advanced equipment and rules that are focused on making sports safe, as well as the fact that sports can keep kids out of trouble. One extremely important reason that forces me to take the position that kids should be allowed to compete in competitive sports is the health benefits that children who play sports recieve.
In any facet of life, whether it is in a relationship, at work, or in school; teamwork plays a critical role in conflict resolution and inevitably success. William James once said, “A chain is no stronger than its weakest link, and life is after all a chain”, regardless of the fact that this notion may hold true for many circumstances in life, it especially holds true with respect to a sports team. From football, to basketball and even soccer, the might of a team working together determines the outcome of any given circumstance. In most cases, there will always be difficult team members, and for the sake of argument, such members are deemed the “weakest” link of a team. Carron, Bray, and Eys (2002) have studied the power that adequate cohesion
Colorism is a way to discriminate against others who have a darker skin tone among people who are in the same race or ethical group. Colorism has been around for countless years and has affected numerous people by forcing them to change themselves just to be able to fit in with the rest of society’s standards. Colorism and racism are different from each other because racism involves two people that come from different background races but have identical skin colors. Meanwhile colorism involves two people of the same race but with different skin colors. Colorism has been making people feel ashamed about their skin color and people buying skin care products to make their skin look lighter and not that many people know how it affects a person
