The Creative Curriculum integrates all aspects of child and youth development. Using research-validated strategies, this approach enhances each young person's growth in the foundations of academics as well as in social-emotional, physical, and creative areas. By adopting the Creative Curriculum — and learning to use it effectively — thousands of educators and caregivers worldwide are making a difference in the lives of children, youth, and families. Competency Statement 1: To establish a safe, healthy learning environment When you are an Early Childhood educator there are some key factors that you have to keep in mind: 1. Creating a safe environment and 2. Creating and instilling in your students and yourself a healthy environment. Safety to me is a very detrimental factor in Early Childhood, because when you deal with young children you always have to watch out for their well being as if they were your own.
Janet acknowledges the children of Head Start are in difficult situations in which they are poor or they are referrals from child protective services. The positive short term effects that Head Start offers is a lasting influence on the child’s future. The fact in which Head Start is still operating after 50 years is an indicator of an evolving quality preschool. I agree with most of the article, however, I do not feel as though this article provides the Head Start Program with justice.
I learned how to adapt to the individual needs of students to provide them the best education. Like students with a communication disorder, many of my students would shy away from activities or tasks because of obstacles. Through these experiences, I watched my students gain the confidence to participate in activities and excel in academics to become successful individuals. Over the past 20 years, the workforce identity of the early years setting has changed dramatically. Policy and governmental changes have inspired children led improvements and this has affected the identity of the Early Years Teacher. In 1997 the Labour Government outlined their commitment to improving quality within the early years setting and one of the main areas they concentrated on was the quality of staff within the settings. This resulted in the view that 'quality' was qualified. In 2007, Labour introduced the graduate role of the Early Years Practitioner, which aimed to raise the falling standards within the early year’s settings.

With a passion to teach and plan an effective curriculum vital to a child’s early developmental experience, how can any of our political parties not have childcare platforms? Christie discusses how three of the four main political parties in the recent Canadian election had childcare platforms this year (Salkaly, 2015). But the underlying issues of the childcare workforce still remain silent. It is hard for child educators to maintain this can-do attitude when the majority of ECEs are struggling to find full time positions and are often faced with split shifts or permanent part-time jobs. The article does an excellent job of reconnecting the quality of childcare with the quality of the professionals that provide it.
When going into the field of an Early Childhood Educator there are different values that one should have. The importance of teacher leadership is considered crucial in education (Williams 2011). Traditional theories on leadership have focused on the role of the individual leader to lead the organisation (Bush 1995). The limitation of this theory is that it overlooks the kinds of leadership that are distributed across teachers during the everyday processes (Williams 2011). Given the challenges faced by most organisations in the demanding contemporary society, it is essential to understand that leadership is not the excusive role of an individual in an organisation but rather a shared role amongst many people, including teaching staff. At this point we can agree with Lieberman (1986) who argued that: “Contexts, needs, talents and commitments differ,
