In this essay, my research will be based on Tyler Perry’s life. Tyler Perry, American playwright, actor, screenwriter, producer, and director, was born as Emmitt Perry in New Orleans, Louisiana on September 14, 1969 to Maxine and Emmitt Perry. He changed his name when he turned 16 because he did not want to have any connection with his abusive father. He also dropped out of school when he was 16 but he later got his GED later in life. When he was younger, his father used to abuse him terribly. He got the vacuum cleaner cord and stuck him in a room and beat him until the skin was coming off his back. He includes some of his struggles into some of his plays and movies. He wants to change people and he also wants to get his story out there cause most people never knew about him being abused. He keeps this smile on his face when he knows that his past might haunt he forever. But instead of letting those things worry him, he started writing plays, books, and movies. Like I said in the above paragraph, he watched Oprah’s show and realized that he wanted to start writing. It became a dream for him. And now he’s living and pursuing it not ever knowing he would get to the position he’s in today. Tyler Perry’s hard work paid off at the end. He gets much more attention than he used to. His shows and movies are more known than his other ones. So many people want to interview and talk to him more about his life. He said in an interview that he hopes his story will encourage other men to stand up tall, speak out and begin the healing process. Tyler gives thanks to Oprah for helping him get through his pain. He said if it wasn’t for her, he probably wouldn’t be where he was today.
