Twenty people were killed because of the ignorance of a group of eight girls and a slave. Now that I have your attention I would like to tell you just how historically accurate The Crucible was. In The Crucible there’s actually quite a few things that line up with what history says. For example some of the girls’ names are the same in The Crucible as they were in history but of course not every name was put in the story. With the exception of a few minor details such as ages and the actual doctor The Crucible is very accurate. As previously stated in this paper most of the names in The Crucible were historically accurate however there were a few names missing in the story. For example historically speaking there were girls named Mary Walcott,
“It is part of a good man to do great and noble deeds though he risk everything.”, Plutarch. In the play The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, the actions of a good man are portrayed. John Proctor, a man during the time of the 1692 Salem witch trials, exhibits noble traits during the play. In the play, Proctor strongly believes in honesty, and attempts to find justice no matter the circumstances. Proctor is not a man who will put himself before others.
The Crucible gives a firsthand account of the Salem witch trials in 1692. Although the characters are fictional, the story is not. One thing that can be learned from The Crucible is that nobody is safe when it comes to paranoia. Paranoia is the first step into societal failure.
Was The Crucible historically accurate? It was loosely accurate. A lot of the stories were definitely over dramatized. There were outrageous accusations on almost everyone. Here is how it all started.
In the play The Crucible there are many liars and people that know how to deceive others. The play, by Arthur Miller, is set in the year of 1692 in the small town of Salem, Massachusetts. There is a theocratic society in place, which helped spin the problem at hand way out of proportion. Suspicions of witchcraft grow when a young girl suddenly becomes inert. People believe that her soul has been taken by the Devil.
Everybody lies sometime in their life and in books/plays there is definitely no eception. For example in the Crucible Written by Arthor Miller in 1953 it is difficult to turn a page without finding a lie. But in real life and fiction lying isn't always harmful but it all depends on the situation. For example in the crucible lieing could of saved several lives.for example Giles,Rebecca Nurse and John proctor would have survived had they lied.
Keely Fisher Ms. Nikolai ELA English 10 Sophomore Academy 4-19-23 The Crucible and Today Witch Trials are an event that has captured people’s attention in history for being unreasonable and frightening. They represent a time in history when people were prone to being unreasonable, and many people would like to believe that these times are behind us. But times of hysteria are not behind us. The Crucible is a play written by Arthur Miller, who was inspired by the Red Scare, that covers the infamous Salem Witch Trials.
Society today is really judgemental. If you don’t wear the right clothes or have the right car then you will get judged. It’s kinda like in the book The Crucible if you weren't a puritan then you were an outcast or you might have been a witch. One of the puritan girls Abigail Williams blamed a lot of women who were called puritans and lived the puritan way. In this case people just judged them without looking into far more research.
Back in the late sixteen hundreds the people during that time are very strict on religion. During the time a colony in the Americas called the puritans believed in witchcraft. People that are accused are guilty till proven innocent. In the Crucible it portrays injustice by how Danforth is not following court that is ruled by religion, Abigail intimidating the court, and the accused not having proper court rights. The following reasons will explain why the crucible is injustice.
People lie for many reasons. Sometimes it’s to themselves, sometimes it’s to others. No matter who they are lying to, it always affects others around you. In the story The Crucible by Arthur Miller, lying is a very common theme. Many characters lie, which include John Proctor, Abigail Williams, Reverend Parris, and many others.
The Crucible was written in 1952 by Arthur Miller, the play delivers many messages and carries many themes throughout. Nearly every character in the play is put to the test to display an act of courage, weakness, or truth. Some characters lack these traits and never learn to have courage or display honesty. However, most characters are very courageous and demonstrate these acts throughout the whole play. Overall the theme of the The Crucible boils down to being about honesty, weakness, and courage.
During the hysteria of 1692 in Salem, Massachusetts, many people were accused of practicing witchcraft. Therefore, their reputation, was ruined. Other people committed many sins in order to keep their reputation clean in town. For instance, some characters had to lie, fight, and accuse other people of witchcraft which could get the individual out of trouble and keep their hands clean. when a person got accused of being a witch, the person’s reputation would get ruined and the person would go to jail or be hanged.
In the story of The Crucible, John Proctor was afraid to admit his affair with Abigail because this is a big sin. If he admitted his affair with Abigail, the trouble and lies could be ended earlier. Another example in The Crucible regards the people of the court themselves. They were afraid to admit that they were wrong about there being witchcraft because people were afraid to die. When you make mistakes you should try to say the truth, don’t be afraid to tell the truth.
The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, is about real life events that has been changed a bit by the author. The play is set back in 1692 in Salem, Massachusetts, were the Salem Witchcraft Trials were going on. The Witchcraft Trials were trials that mostly girls, but some men got accused of seeing the devil and doing work for him. If you were accused of being a witch you were to admit to seeing the devil, accuse other people, or you would get hung. Some people wouldn 't admit to being a witch just to save their life because of their faith in Jesus.
Lying is the most committed sin. Everyday people lie whether small or big. Every human knows that lying should not be exercised, but sometimes, in certain situations, lying is necessary due to the consequences of telling the truth. In the Bible, James 3:8, quoted is “But no human being can tame the tongue, it is a relentless evil, full of deadly poison.”
Also, since The Crucible was written to be parallel to McCarthyism, the same idea is shown. The same situation can be seen in The Crucible as Arthur Miller was influenced by the events that occurred during McCarthyism. In the Crucible, anyone whose name that had been mentioned underwent an investigation and was asked to prove that they were not partaking in witchcraft. Because this task was impossible, the court made rash decisions such as sending people to jail or sentencing them to be hanged. This scenario is seen in the crucible when Rebecca Nurse is accused.
