The artist I will be discussing for my research project is the country music legend and superstar, Garth Brooks. He has been a big fan of mine my entire life, and I love his music. When he was just starting out, he did not have much success. He went to Oklahoma State University and sang in a bar called Willy’s Saloon down on the Strip in Stillwater. Us Oklahomans always feel warm hearted towards stars like him that realize throughout all of his fame and success; he still remembers and is proud of where he came from. Garth Brooks was born Troyal Garth Brooks in Tulsa, Oklahoma on February 7, 1962. He grew up in Yukon, Oklahoma, however. He attended Yukon High School and then received a track scholarship to Oklahoma State University. He was an …show more content…
He did, however perform with a handful of successful artists. Some to mention are Chris LeDoux, Justin Timberlake, and his wife, Trisha Yearwood. I would consider these famous collaborations. Chris LeDoux was the definition of a real cowboy; he was a rodeo star turned country music singer and a really good friend of Brooks. The song LeDoux and Brooks sang together is called “What’Cha Gonna Do With a Cowboy,” and it is also the name of LeDoux’s album. After Garth Brooks came out of retirement and went back on the road for a world tour, he had a concert in St. Louis that Justin Timberlake flew out to see while taking a break on his own tour. A few weeks later when Justin had a show out in Nashville, Garth came on stage and sang Brooks’ infamous song “Friends In Low Places” with him. Another collaboration that Garth Brooks has done was with his wife Trisha Yearwood, “In Another’s Eyes” from his seventh studio album called Sevens. There is a huge list of major recordings that Garth Brooks has done. He has had a very successful music career so far and after coming out of retirement, I do not think he is slowing down anytime soon with his musical hits. To name a few, some of his major recordings include, “The Dance,” and “If Tomorrow Never Comes,” from his self-titled album Garth Brooks, “Friends In Low Places” and “The Thunder Rolls” from his second studio album No Fences, “Papa Loved Mama,” and a …show more content…
He was definitely considered country, but more contemporary country. Some of his music even crossed over to the pop charts and did remarkably well there as well as on the country charts. This is why Garth Brooks has become as successful as he has. He appeals to not only country music fans, but to also popular music fans as well. For one of his albums, he did release a rock-alternative album under the name of his alter ego Chris Gaines. It did not do as well as he had hoped and felt a bit defeated after that. He did not worry for long though, because his last album before retirement called Scarecrow, was unbelievably

Country music is full of talented individuals, male and female. The entire genre is comprised of world class songwriters, singers, artists, and management and production teams. Walking around Nashville, you’re never in short supply of “the next big thing.” Country music has gone from smokey bar rooms, to some of the biggest musical stages and venues imaginable. In a world where a Carrie Underwood show isn’t complete without a few costume changes to entertain 10,000 screaming fans, it leaves you to wonder why some of the most equally or more talent individuals still struggle to have their music gain huge traction.

The country music of our society today does not follow the ideology that country music can only be made by white Americans. Country music artists of multiple ethnicities can be found in our society today. Darius Rucker is an African American country artist who is quite popular on the billboard charts today. Johnny Cash is to country music as candy is to children. Even though it has been many years since he made music, people still see him as a country music idol.
