Winston and Patterson (2006) integrative definition of leadership is an excellent definition of leadership. Thus, Hitler also fits the definition only the most important ingredient is missing from Hitler leadership, which would be the presence of the Lord. There as been an enormous amount of information on the definition of leadership however, Bass (1990) argues that Leadership has been the focus of group processes, as a personality attribute, as the art of inducing compliance, as an exercise of influence, as a kind of act, as a form of persuasion, as a power relation, as an instrument in the attainment of goals, as an effect of nitration, as a differentiated role, and as the initiation of structure (20). He defines a leader as someone who inspires and motivates his followers. In the work place leadership and management go hand-in-hand but they are not the same thing. More detailed differences can be found on the Wall Street Journal [2]. At times it is difficult to distinguish the two traits and the perfect boss is someone who can switch easily between the two whenever the situation demands. For example, if there are tight deadlines to be met, a strong manager will ensure that his staff are able to execute plans on time and with good quality and if need be, he will coordinate with external parties to ensure that his team has the necessary resources to succeed with the task at hand.
There are leaders, and there are followers, and not much in between. Leaders have a strong stance, while followers live their life according to others. Followers crumble at the opinion of those surrounding them. A follower is, as Murray Bowen would define, undifferentiated, a conformist. They do not stand for what they believe in, they believe and do what others tell them they should.
Leadership is the ability to guide or influence others with an objective of achieving a desired outcome. It involves influencing beliefs, opinions, values, perceptions, or behaviors of an individual or a group, and it is an amalgamation of inherent personality traits, learned skills, and it is a response to situational stimuli. I believe that, at any particular moment, where two or more individuals are interacting, one of them will emerge as the leader the other(s). To me, this means leadership role is fluid, and it changes as situational stimuli changes. For instance, during interpersonal interaction involving two individual, the leadership role has potential to shift from one individual to the other, as the situational stimuli changes.
We were all born to be leaders, to subdue our environment with our gifts and to serve humanity. No one was born to be a follower. We become followers when we settle for jobs instead of doing the work we were born to do, job makes you a follower, but work makes you a leader. Work is that which you were born to do and job is that which you do to survive. Work is defined as what you have been gifted to do to serve humanity for life’s fulfillment.

Leadership Analysis Introduction One of the popular definitions of a leader is, "The only definition of a leader is someone who has followers." ( ) A more comprehensive definition that highlights striking features of a leader is, "A simple definition of leadership is that leadership is the art of motivating a group of people to act towards achieving a common goal.” ( ) A closer scrutiny of the characteristics of an influential leader would many ways assist one, in recognizing those attributes in an attempt to assimilate the best in others.
In other words, leadership demands the ability to modify plans and adapt new strategies based on conditions and circumstances. To be successful, a leader must be capable of fitting in and adapting to a plethora of different groups and situations while never losing vision of the objectives and purpose of their appointment. Martin Luther King was flexible. Once he said that: “When you are right you cannot be too radical; when you are wrong you cannot be too conservative.” All things considered, the future leaders should learn from his example because he created himself.
There are many different views and perceptions on leadership and what it exactly means. This is because there are many different types of leaders and many different views on them. A leader focuses on the follower and puts out a roadmap to the overall mission and vision; hereby the follower is influenced to willingly and enthusiastically in achieving the mission and vision. ‘Organizations provide its managers with legitimate authority to lead, but there is no assurance that they will be able to lead effectively’ (Lunenburg, 2011). Organizational success usually requires a combination of both management and leadership. In today’s dynamic work environment, leaders are expected to challenge the present state of affairs, and to motivate and convince organization members.
