The Reformation still affects our lives today in many different ways. The Reformation is an event that occurred in the 16th century, during the life of Martin Luther. Martin Luther was a man who studied to become a lawyer. However, one fateful night young Martin was traveling home when a thunderstorm struck! That day he dedicated himself to becoming a monk. From then on ,he devoted his life to the Catholic Church. One day ,he discovered that the Church was selling items called indulgences. Indulgences are what the Catholic Church sold to citizens to get them or loved ones out of purgatory. Purgatory is supposedly the place between Heaven and Hell. Martin thought this was wrong so he looked in the bible (the bible was only in Latin and Greek at the time) and he could not find any signs of purgatory and indulgences in the Bible. Instead ,he found that to get into …show more content…
Without the Reformation the Catholic Church may still have been selling indulgences. The Catholic Church may have still been teaching about purgatory. They might even still exile people about having different views about the Church. If all of this were to still happen, many important people might have never existed. Countries could have never been founded, wars never fought, major historical events could have never happened. Without the Reformation, the great heroic story of Martin Luther probably would be passed off as a story of tyrant whom tried to purge the Catholic Church of its greatness. The Bible might have never been written in German, or any other language for that matter. Without the Reformation, many other Churches that branched off and became a whole new Church may not have even existed, there would have only been the Catholic
The cause of the Reformations was more theological than secular. Problems within the church were growing larger and larger. Many people did not agree with all of the churches practices, but there was nothing the could do about it. There are several major theological differences between Protestants and Catholics. Protestants believe that the bible is the source of Gods revolution to mankind.
I believe The Reformation influenced many events in the church, politics, race and gender. First, the Reformation changed the church. The movement did start in the walls of the Catholic Church. A man named Martin Luther challenged the authority of the church.
During the late 15th and early 16th centuries, the countries of Europe began to develop a rift. This was caused by a movement known as the Reformation. The Reformation was jump-started by the posting of Martin Luther’s 95 Theses. Luther urged for the reform of the Catholic Church and its ideas. The proponents of his reform convinced many of the common people to reconsider the foundations of their religious beliefs, as well as the structures of their communities.
This also changed the world that has to do with the Catholics. After the Reformation the Catholics tried to fix all the problems that Luther complained about. They stopped charging people so much money for religious things. They didn’t allow marriage now they do. If they didn’t change these problems back then then they might not be a big religion
The Protestant Reformation broke out in Germany in the beginning of 1517. The Church and the Pope began to lose power and authority and people began to question the teachings and ways of the Catholic Church. Ideas of new religions, such as Protestant, Lutheran, and Calvinists, started to spread throughout Europe. The Church was corrupt and started to lose followers. These problems led to people speaking out against the Church and it became a revolution of political and religious debates.
The Reformation was a time in Europe in the 1500s in which people questioned the beliefs of the Catholic Church. There were many changes made by the catholic church. The people that were responsible were Martin Luther, John Calvin and King Henry VIII. The Protestant Reformation of 16th century Europe was primarily the result of three men and their disagreements with the Catholic Church; Martin Luther, John Calvin, and King Henry VIII forever changed the religious landscape of Europe.
The Protestant and English reformation were both reforms that took place in the 16th century against the Roman Catholic Church. Comparatively these reformations are alike and different in some sense. For example, Two leaders led these reforms and went against the church’s beliefs for different purposes. For personal reasons , King Henry VIII went against the church, whereas Martin Luther knew the church could not offer him salvation amongst other reasons. Before becoming a monk, Martin Luther was once a law student .
"The Protestant Reformation forever changed the way that some would view the Church" (Rawls, 2017). People were able to read and study the Scriptures, instead of learning what the Church wanted them to learn. As they read they realize what they have been taught didn't align with what they were learning. That changed their views towards not only the church but also the state. What the Catholic Church feared was happening.
Many reformers such as Martin Luther, John Wycliff, and John Calvin played prominent roles in sixteenth-century Europe; they helped to reform Catholic churches and change the Europeans’ ways of thinking. “The Reformation was a rejection of the secular spirit of the Italian Renaissance” is a true statement. The main goal of the religious reformation was to bring back the former beliefs and practices of the Roman Catholic Church, which were based off of the bible; this went against the Renaissance ideas. Martin Luther was one of the many important reformers in sixteenth century Europe. Luther helped to completely change the church systems by writing his 95 theses.
Martin Luther, the man who changed church history, was dedicated in finding the truth about church believes and why he believed the church needed to make changes. Although the Reformation happened in 1517, it is still important to remember all that took place during these crucial times. Through hard work, Luther studied Scripture and pointed out to the church what they were doing differently, according to Scripture. Through his perseverance, Luther changed church history for the better. Once Martin Luther realized there was a difference of beliefs among the church and himself, he investigated the truths.
When the Protestant Reformation occurred, it had a large effect on western civilization. The Protestant Reformation was the 16th century when Martin Luther wanted to increase life and develop the right way within the churches. The Protestant Reformation changed life for people for Europe by the changes with religion, gender, and class. In Europe, there was a lot of religions fighting for the chances of succeeding and having all the power.
Reformation was a movement where reformists condemned the condemned the corruption of the Catholic Church. In the beginning did the Ninety-five These trigger the Reformation. Plus, the Blach Death and Catholic Church division discouraged people to follow the absolute rule of the Church. Renaissance followers began to delve into the research and re-understand the Bible and Christianity, forming Protestant. The Reformation was a further discovery of the humanity, continuing the path of the Renaissance.
The background of the events that led up to the Reformation would have to be social and political conflict and popular religious movements and criticism of the church. The Reformation broke out in the first free cities of Germany, and Switzerland with basic tenets of Lutheran and Zwinglian Protestantism. Frowning on sectarianism and aggressive proselytizing, they made it very possible that the Catholics and Protestants to live side by side with appropriate barriers between them. Social and political experience also got influenced in the religious change in town and countryside. The peasants on the land heard in Protestant sermons and read in Protestant pamphlets promises of political liberation, even a degree of social betterment.
Main Causes of the Reformation There are many reasons why the Reformation occurred and what the main causes were. Many priests were illiterate and did not teach the same values to people that were contained in the Bible. Indulgences were widely disputed because some religious figures deemed them arbitrary and to others it seemed ridiculous that you could pay money and be absolved of sin. Additionally, many people became more skeptical of the church after several popes turned out to be incorrect on matters of faith.
Protestantism and the Church continued to expand as time when on but it wasn’t the population’s greatest concern, but they did start to want to change the views in the Bible. Summarizing, the Reformation was a great era for rediscovering and correcting mistakes from the past and finally getting to choosing and rethinking ideas. However horrible the Dark Ages were for Europe, they helped expand the human brain after being so narrow minded and simplistic for such a long period of time. The Reformation/Renaissance era was great after so many years of narrow-mindedness, and brought in many important people who were still to impact the world, rather spiritually, artistically or philosophically.
