The future is an unforeseen battle we all have to somehow prepare for, the only thing that matters is how you prepare and how you want people to recognize your name when you pass. Montag does not like the way his life is going, repetitive and plain, he realizes he is not happy and changes the outcome of the way his life is going to be for the later years. Guy Montag sees the lies the government is trying to tell and he chooses to preserve the books instead of burn them. The world and society that Guy Montag lives in is all falling to pieces, the government chooses what they want the people to learn and hide the truth. Montag’s wife is lost to the electronics and lies, she does not love Montag, it is an unhealthy relationship. Montag does not like the lifestyle he is living, destroying people's passion of reading books and destroying society and the world around them. Millie is a victim of all the lies and the electronics and media, she was taken over by the government and she is so tied up in it that she lost her love for Montag. Millie and Montag can not even remember how they met each other, neither seem to care. The unhealthiness of their relationship affects them both critically, losing the love for one another, they are both very unhappy and Millie does not seem to care, all she cares about is her TV programs and the technology she runs off every single day. Montag began his career as a dedicated fireman. He was taught to burns books and he performed this task well, taking great joy in his life as a firemen. He loved the smell of kerosene burning the books at 451 degrees Fahrenheit. These were the books that were so vehemently hated. But this all changed when Montag met a young girl by the name of Clarisse.
Montag changes in many ways, one of which is that he changes physically. Guy Montag had been keeping books from the government and was repeatedly spitting out quotes when he talked causing multiple people including his wife to report him. He is brave and royal and always try to find true happiness. At the beginning of the book, he thought he was happy with his job and his life but many things happened that changed his life. He met Clarisse, a bright girl, and she questioned him “ Are you happy?” that startled him.
Initially Montag, a fireman who burns literature for a living, found books as “a pleasure to burn,” (Bradbury 1). Bradbury conveys fire as a source of termination- in this particular society, a way to censor ideas and knowledge that won’t be a threat to the government. Through the firemen attire, such as wearing “451” on their helmets, the degree at which paper burns, Bradbury symbolizes fire as destruction and control. The firemen hold a control over the citizens, restricting them by demolishing all literature and destroying any deep thoughts and emotions the society may feel. Montag thrives to do better with their influence; Clarisse by making him wonder about the potential beauty of the world, and Mrs. Clara Phelps and Mrs. Ann Bowles by proving to him the harshness of the society. As neighbours, Clarisse heavily affects Montag because of the society's condition on people like her and her family. Clarisse McClellan is a teenage character with a wondrous and curious personality about the world and nature. She confirms to be unmistakably strange and different in comparison to the other people around her.
Throughout Fahrenheit 451 Guy Montag has undergone drastic changes. Through all the conflicts in his dystopian society, Montag evolved from a unemotional and careless fireman to one who will sacrifice for what he cares and believes in. One huge change Guy Montag has undergone is the change in his beliefs. On page 1 Montag states “It was a pleasure to burn” “ Montag was pleased by burning and fire” “It was a special pleasure to see things Eaten, to see things blackened and changed”. Fahrenheit 451 Every so often people express a desire to be left alone and not bothered, except in fact people do need to be bothered. If no one in the world was bothered then it would be all about security and happiness, and then no one would know how to do the things they know how to do in today 's world. Bradbury changes the character Montag throughout the novel Fahrenheit 451. Bradbury transforms Montag at least three times in the novel. Bradbury developed him mostly through his job, social life, and through the experience of books. Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, is a classic novel that challenges authority through self-discovery and growth. The main character Guy Montag is a dedicated fireman. He enjoys his job, watching pages of books become nothing more than burnt ash. He has never questioned anything before, nor has he had a reason to. That is, until he encounters three important individuals that seem to influence a change in Montag and ultimately change his world.
The next major plot point is when Montag started to read. Montag started reading because he thought it would fill the gap that had formed in his life. This is when one of his main struggles is formed. Montag started to go to war with himself about whether or not he should read. This is also when he flashes back to meeting Faber in the park all that time ago.
