Who are the true villains responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death? In the story “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare as he wrote the greatest tragedy of all time, two enemies become lovers and love drags them to the end. The person most responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death is lord capulet because he forced her to marry Paris and he starts the feud between the two families, but some may say Friar Lawrence because he gave the potion to Juliet and advised her to lie to her parents. Lord Capulet’s actions and decisions in “Romeo and Juliet” plays a role in Juliet and Romeo’s death because he arranged a marriage for Juliet to marry Paris but she never consented which forced Juliet to make poor decisions. This idea is supported when Friar Lawrence points out “ Take thou vial, then in bed, And this distilling liquor drink thou off” (Shakespeare 196). It's evident that the quote shows that Friar Lawrence takes part in Juliet's death by giving her the potion which leads to Romeo thinking Juliet is dead and him committing suicide as well as Juliet committing suicide. It has been revealed that Friar Lawrence made mistakes, Lord Capulet was worse because he forced marriage with Paris, and if he didn’t do that she wouldn’t have gone to the extreme of killing herself. Audiences may believe this because Friar Lawrence says “ Hold then, Go home, be married, give consent to marry Paris” (Shakespeare 196). This shows Friar Lawrence encouraging Juliet to lie to her father which leads to Juliet’s death because she could have told her parents the truth and said she was already married which could have let them adjust instead of Juliet dying. It's evident that Friar Lawrence made crucial errors, but Lord Capulet was worse. After all, he put Juliet in situations where she had to lie to extremes such as Juliet having to get the potion because he was making her marry Paris.
