Introduction In this paper, I describe my ideal job as an expert registered nurse in palliative care. Also, I examine my strengths and limitations in relation to a particular job posting (e.g., registered nurse in VHA Home Health Care palliative care) (refer to Appendix). Lastly, the paper discusses various marketing strategies that may help me reach my career goal. Career Vision My perfect job would be to work in a reputable community health care facility where I am able to utilize and enhance my knowledge and skills in palliative/hospice care. Ideally, I would work at VHA Home Health Care providing care for clients and families affected by a terminal illness. My clients and colleagues would describe me as a kind, respectful, responsible, and compassionate individual. Every day when I leave work, I would feel a sense of satisfaction and happiness as I am able to instill hope/happiness and …show more content…
Next, I would acquire the Hospice Palliative Care certificate by applying and taking the examination offered by the CNA (“CNA Certification Program,” n.d.). In addition, I would enroll myself in the Enhanced Fundamentals course prior to participating in the CAPCE Program since the course is a pre-requisite for CAPCE (“CAPCE Program,” n.d.). As for my last gap, I plan to gain the 2 year experience in hospice/palliative care in a different health care facility, preferably in a community setting (e.g., Palliative/hospice care through Community Living Toronto). By doing so, not only will I meet the requirements, but I can improve my practice by strengthening non-verbal communication skills, and gaining specific pain assessment and management skills catered to clients with a terminal illness. For instance, I will be able to recognize and assess non-verbal cues of pain (e.g., grimacing and groaning) and emotional distress (e.g., anxiety and agitation) and take corrective

From the article, I learned that registered nurses can specialize in specific areas; those nurses are called APRNS. One APRN job is midwifery. Nursing along with midwifery is a career that I would now definitely like to pursue.

Aiken (2002) study shows that the nursing shortage has negatively affected communication, nurse patient relationships and timeliness of care and overall competence of nurse’s professional identity. For example, the Francis report in 2013 at the mid Staffordshire foundation trust investigation had bad indication on nurses, healthcare and all the staff in connection to the negative and culture that caused harm to patient. In order to resolve this issue the NHS has to reflect on the nurses’ professional identity, encourage nurses, provide support, and reorganise the work environment (Buerhaus, 2007). A research study conducted by Johnson and Johnson (2012), found that nurses fear that talking about their technical skills and medical knowledge somehow risks their reputation for caring and compassion.

Advanced practice nurses may find that their interest in specialties changes over time. [4] Alternatively, nurse practitioners could enjoy a particular field throughout their career, but seek to provide service in different ways, such as shifting focus from clinical practice to legislative reform. Despite the career path that an advanced practice nurse chooses, consumers will continue to require their specialized services and these professionals will always find that a world of opportunity is available due to the profession that they have
Personal Statement for Nursing School “When a person decides to become a Nurse. They make the most important decision of their lives. They choose to dedicate themselves to the care of others” Growing up in Nigeria; I had my first introduction to the field of medicine at the age of 6. At the time, my grand father was a holistic doctor at my local community. Whenever my grandfather went to work, he would take me with him and I remembered being very fascinated by how people would come in to get treatments for different kinds of diseases.
Although there has been debate in the past as to whether nursing should be considered a profession, the advent and definition of a nursing metaparadigm has positively advanced the establishment of nursing as a discipline. Moreover, a metaparadigm is seen as the framework for the development of a discipline and without one a consensus could not have been reached in supporting that currently “nursing is a discipline with a metaparadigm.” (Butts, & Rich, 2013, p. 87).
The days of staying at a job until retirement have gone by the wayside. The next ten to twenty years are predicted to have a shortage in nursing (Lartey, Cummings & McGrath, 2014). Administrations and managements systems are diligently studying the possible strategies to promote productivity, decrease call offs and improve retention in the nursing positions (Lartey, Cummings & McGrath, 2014). There is prediction of a shortage of nurses by the year 2018, which will be augmented by nurses retiring, changes in health care delivery and other financial changes (Grossman & Valiga, 2013).

According to the Merriam Webster dictionary a doctor is defined as “a person skilled or specializing in healing arts; especially : one (such as a physician, dentist, or veterinarian) who holds an advanced degree and is licensed to practice”. Not to mention doctors are dedicated, hardworking, and majority of them love what they do. With that being said, a great number of people and medical field workers join for a few reasons, some of them being; they love what they do, they have greater knowledge in the area, (realistically speaking) they like the pay or for better reasons they want their work to change the world and the lives of others. People have always had high aspirations of being a doctor.
