My Love For Science

Most students have a favorite subject, whether it’s mathematics, history, or music. My favorite subject is science. I discovered my love for science when I was attending John Bowne Elementary School. My science teacher was hosting an egg dropping contest in order for students to explore the physics concepts, momentum and moment of inertia. Students were given the difficult task of creating a cushion with soft materials, such as paper towels, in a shoebox. A raw egg would then be dropped into the shoebox and if it remained intact, it was considered a success. After many trials and errors, I surprisingly placed first in the egg dropping contest. Since this small, yet impactful, accomplishment, I have developed a zeal for the sciences.
In order to further expand my knowledge in the science field, I decided to attend Queens High School for the Sciences (QHSS), a high school located in Jamaica, Queens that requires prospective students to take a rigorous entrance exam. QHSS places an emphasis on the sciences as a college-preparatory curriculum which can not only deepen my interest in science, but also provide me with a glimpse of college-level academics. I have taken Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, the core science courses. After my sophomore year of high school, I had fulfilled the required amount of credits for science.
