It was the last inning of the 2020 Jr baseball finals; the winner would be declared the champions of the west region of the United States of America. The opposing team was one point ahead and Augustin’s team had one player on first base and another on second. Augustin sat on the bench next to his two best friends, Susan and Sam. They sat there for a while waiting for their turn to bat and not before long their team had received a strikeout. The kid who stuck out was a scrawny kid with glass who looked as if he was going to cry under the pressure of the game. Augustin briskly turned toward him and said “Don’t worry we’ll win this one” with a slight nod. The boy looked up at him and smiled and then sat down. Not too long after that Susan was up to bat. …show more content…
She said she did this as a good luck charm but really she was trying to annoy Augustin with the sharp noise it produced. Augustin’s response to the noise was to roll his eyes and just ignore it. Just as Augustin’s attention was focused on Susan again, the ball had just flung passed her and hit the fence. Augustin then realized that the stress of the tied championship game had gotten to her. At this point Susan was visibly quivering. The pitcher saw this as an opportunity to get another strike. Susan now on her last chance to redeem herself stopped shaking. As the pitcher started to propel the ball through the air, Augustin knew that Susan would smash this next ball at full force. Susan had hit the ball with the force of a grown woman even though she was only fourteen. Augustin observed Susan run to first base and then diverted his eyes to the ball, it has been
During a defensive drill, Tamika defended her usual way, standing straight up, super-aggressive, going after the ball. But, coach Pat had stopped the drill and suggested, “Bend your knees, arms out and move with the player.” The coach even came over and positioned her in the correct way and said, “slide.” Then, after that Tamika did the drill again, exactly the same way she had defended last time. As a result, the coach stopped the drill and told her to fix the same thing, only this she was starting to look stern.
In an era filled with war, racial divides and tensions, two men signify the true meaning of human compassion. Written by Robert P. Parker, the book Double Play creates a vivid picture on the troubles of segregation and the breaking of the color barrier in baseball. The book provides insight on the reality of famous baseball player Jackie Robinson and his fictional bodyguard Joseph Burke. Joseph Burke is a war veteran marine who is hired by Branch Rickey, owner of the Brooklyn Dodgers, to be Robinson’s bodyguard as he entered major league baseball as the first African American. Double Play is a phenomenal book that describes the difficult lives of two men who weren’t consumed by the ideals of racism throughout the rest of society.
Despite this, Joshua agreed to play with her. This was not the first time that they had played before. It was a common event, so nothing seemed amiss about the situation. During the game of baseball, Joshua had accidentally hit Maddie in the eye with the ball. Terrified of the consequences, he dragged her inside his house in order to attempt ceasing her cries.
Listening to the radio, I learned a home run followed the path of memories. I learned that home plate was the heart of the ball field and the farm house was the heart of the farm. I learned if you worked hard enough, nothing was unhittable not even Brown’s curveball. As long as you kept alert like a fox, you could survive the curves that the elements threw. I looked at Dzeidek with admiration because I knew he came to this country and put down roots as gnarled and swollen as his
These players along with many more decided to try and cheat the game of baseball and take credit where credit was far from due. Sticking to baseball’s foundation of outstanding character and honesty will get a player far in not only life but baseball as well. Winners never cheat and cheaters never
This past weekend my softball career came to a complete end. I have spent the last 15 years of my life putting in the hard work, dedication, and endless effort that has brought me to where I am today and I couldn't be more thankful. I have made many friendships along the way that will last a lifetime, and memories that I will cherish forever. Although I'm sad that it has come to an end, I am ready for a new chapter in my life to begin. I want to thank all my coaches and teammates for the continuous support on and off the field, and pushing me to the limits I never thought I could reach.
The batter starts his swing and crushes the ball. The ball takes off like a rocket and the crowd goes nuts. It clears the mammoth fence by countless feet, and the home team has won. After all the smells, sights, tastes, sounds, and emotions that fans felt throughout the baseball game one has just attended, one major thing sticks out.
Leonardo Cassuto’s “Baseball and the Business of American Innocence” discusses how baseball has a natural attraction to how people write stories and portrait baseball. Baseball has a very hidden fantasy about it. Many authors write many types of books about how baseball is “not only the airbrushed ole days,” but has now transformed into a sickening reality underneath. Cassuto gives many examples of books, like Sheldon and Alan Hirsch’s The Beauty of Short Hops, that opens the doors for people and the realities of baseball.
He implements baseball jargon, such as including DiMaggio, describing the field like an emerald, and expressing that the baseball still has the pitcher's thumbprints on it. All of these small details that would normally be missed in the game are taken notice of here in this work. This solidifies the idea that the player's mind quickly races due to the panic of being in a hitting slump, which sets the tone of anxiousness throughout the entire
Everyone 's at least broken a bone or injured themselves before right? Well this is one of those tragic stories where I unfortunately injured myself. It all started way back in the 5th grade and all my friends and family know I love & play the game of baseball. The baseball season for the little league I play for is about to begin in about 1-2 weeks.
For a young baseball player one of the highest goals to achieve is hitting a homerun -for me that was all I wanted. I already achieved most of what I wanted in baseball, and one of my proudest was a no-hitter, but it was no home run. When I first realized how bad I wanted this feat was one night after a practice where all we did was just hit. The majority of my teammates hit at least one homerun that practice, but me I hit the fence but never was able to send one over. The car ride home after the practice was horrible, I was a mess.
First home run Crack! The ball flew off the bat and went as high as a bird in the sky. Aaron is a young 11 year old boy who loves playing baseball whenever he can. Every Time that he would step up to the plate he was always swing for the fence and dreamed about hitting the ball over and seeing all the fans cheer as he rounded the bases. All of times Aaron had played he never had home run but was always close sometimes hitting the wall just short of the ball going over it: but today that was about to change.
If you like baseball you are going to love this story about my fun state baseball tournament! We had 11 players, three coaches, and a lot of fans and parents. You will hear about how we did, what I did, and what happened. Now you will read about my team and I did, and everything else that happened. We drove to Des Moines Iowa on July 21.
