Samuel Houston is an important figure in history because of his military leadership, his presidency in the Republic of Texas, and his contributions as a Senator. He was born on March 2, 1793 as the 5th child of Major Samuel Houston and Elizabeth Paxton (tshaonline.org). After Major Houston's death, Elizabeth decided to take her family to Tennessee where Sam and his siblings grew up (shalhp 96). As a curios child, Sam came across an English-speaking Cherokee while walking into the woods; he became friends with them and later lived with the Cherokees where he was named Co-lon-neh or the Raven in English (lsl 17-28). Sam Houston ran for the presidency against Stephen F. Austin; Sam won the presidential race and became the first president of the Republic of Texas (tshaonline.org). During his first term, which lasted from October 22, 1836 to December 10, 1838, he faced many problems such as the fear of the Mexicans invading, the lack of money and supplies, and the rejection of his annexation proposal with the United States (shalhp 57-60). However, during his first term as a president, he accomplished things like trading with European nations and stabilizing the financial situation of Texas (shalhp 60). After serving his first term, he was succeeded by Mirabeau B. Lamar (pbs.org) However, after Lamar's term, Houston was again voted as the president of Texas in which he served from December 13,1841 to December 9, 1844. He, yet again, faced invasions from the Mexican government wanting Texas back; however, the Mexicans were unsuccessful. When asked if the United States should declare war against Mexico, he said yes; in 1848, the war ended and the United States gained land from Mexico. As a senator, he was also concerned in keeping the country together. As a result, he supported the Compromise of 1850 which led to the inclusion of California as a free state, to the prohibition of slave trade in Washington DC, and to the returning of runaway slaves to their owners. Juan Seguin was an important person to Texas history in his early lifetime, he was also in three wars and served for Native rights.
During that term he was the first Texas governor to be impeached from office. He is the only Texas Governor ever to be impeached from office. But he found a way to get back into office, he had his wife ran for office in 1925 so he would be in office once again. When his wife was governor of Texas he was the first gentleman of Texas, which opened the door for him to be in office.
Lorenzo De Zavala had the greatest impact in forging the identity of Texas, because he was the republic's first Vice President, signed the Texas Declaration of Independence, and helped write the Texas Constitution. Furthermore, by signing the declaration of Independence Zavala helped create an idea in Texas of supporting what you believe in and focusing on freedom. The Law of April 6, 1830 made it illegal for anyone from the United States to immigrate to Texas. As you could imagine, this angered the already existing American immigrants, because that meant that they could not bring relatives along so that they could move to Texas as well.

Andrew Jackson during his time was considered a very patriotic politician he hated the rich, he hated the Indian, and loved the idea of slavery. It has been said that he grew up not educated and had a bad up bring but still managed to get to a high political suture. Jackson at one point was general and had a very decorated portfolio, which made sense he would become president, Andrew was most well know for “The Battle of New Orleans” where Andrew Jackson, prevented the British Army and General Edward Pakenham, from seizing New Orleans nearing the end of that war.

Davy Crockett was an interesting man who loved the outdoors and had was one of the men who gave their life at the Alamo and had many accomplishments. Davy was born August 17,1786. He grew up poor, so he had to sometimes feed himself. This is where his love for outdoors took place.
Born into a non-aristocratic poor family, somewhere in the Carolina’s on March 14, 1767, was a man named Andrew Jackson. Jackson, also called “Old Hickory” was a very bold proactive man in American history. From being a military hero and founding the democratic party to enacting the trail of tears and dismantling the of the Bank of the United States, the man and his legacy are a prominent topic for scholarly debate. Some believe he was a great president and some believe he was the worse president. But if you look at it from a moral perceptive or in the eyes of a foreigner, Jackson’s legacy was far more villainous than heroic.
He was very sick. The Mexican Army tried several attacks on the Texans, but failed everytime. The Americans were going to Mexico to declare Texas independence. The Americans want to be independent. The Mexicans did not want them to be.

Aside from being anti-imperialist, he is against racism, published many books that were controversial because it’s contains racist language although it’s main purpose was to show the life of a boy on a slave state. When Samuel was 4 years old, his family moved to a nearby town named Hannibal. His father, John Clemens, have many jobs.
