As life goes on, we have no clue what is going to happen tomorrow, as many of us just live life as it goes but in reality, we should think of situations such as a fire, intruder, kidnapping etc. situations. There has been staff and students killed in shootings at Columbine high School in Colorado in 1999, Sandy Hook Elementary in 2012 and now at Stoneman Douglas in Florida, where or who is next? No one is expecting this kind of situation nor are they well prepare for them. Schools preform drills such as shelter-in-place, lockdown, evacuation, drop, cover, and hold in case of an earthquake etc. but in reality as much as the students practice the safety drills in that moment each person will forget everything and have so many other questions …show more content…
This question will go through every parent, teacher or other kid of staff mind every single day, wondering who will attack next. Moreover, what best if we are well armed to protect others, and ourselves but the reality is that not even with weapons our lives are secure, weapons will not stop school shootings. The problem starts with the person having issues with themselves and their surroundings and we need to make sure to have more support towards students with problems or that they mind feel left out somehow. Instead of fighting and worrying about making new rules for teachers to carry guns, they should really focus on their …show more content…
They mention how they care so much for their students that they will take a bullet for them, but they also mention how from the moment they wake up to the moment they go to sleep they think about all the things that could go wrong or right. To having teachers think, that having a weapon could help and prevent any incidents to teachers having to think other communication solutions would help and prevent school
It is a grim matter to those, who walk through this great nation, or flick through the news channels, when they see the statistics, and the headlines of shootings and homicides committed against innocent and defenseless peoples. Now americans everywhere, instead of being able to live their life with a peace of mind, are forced to live with the anxiety and fear that their loved ones will not home from mundane activities such as school, the movies, or even church. These fears aren’t unfounded either. The FBI defines a mass shooting as a public attack in which three or more people are shot, and last year in the USA there were over 427 mass shootings.
Students today live their day-to-day lives in constant fear of what seems inevitable. The United States has one of the highests rates of school shootings in the world. Society has become so desensitized to these shootings that they are no longer shocked to hear about another school falling victim to it. Even when students take a stand against gun violence, the only solution offered to them is a proposition to arm teachers. However, bringing more guns into a school will only further deteriorate the situation.
Teachers could feel more comfortable in their classrooms if they knew they could protect themselves and their students from violent threats. Schools being a gun free zone are a target for violent
Gun deaths are more and more prevalent, making students, parents, teachers, and staff worrisome of attending school on a daily basis. As the government is emphasizing the banning of books and TikTok, yet still not putting enough emphasis on the frightening amount of school shootings happening. This could include looking into gun laws or examining mental health's involvement. By putting regulations and finding the stimulus of the issue is a step in the right direction. Students, employees, and teachers/professors should not be apprehensive about going to school; school should be a place of learning and engaging with other students.
So by arming teachers this will give some fear in a potential shooters eyes versus a shooter knowing they can march into any school they want to and kill students and teachers without anyone putting up a fight until first responders getting to the
Over the past few weeks, arming teachers has been a controversial topic throughout the country. School shootings have taken the lives of many over the past few years, yet they are becoming more and more frequent. In today’s society children shouldn’t have to go to school worried if they are going to be safe that day. If teachers are armed it will add that extra bit of protection to the children. A big question is if arming teachers is even going to matter if an active shooter happens to be in that school.
This world has been and continues to be scarred with constant, horrific, deadly, and painful events that affect hundreds of families. The unexpected mass shootings, school gun-downs, ramming of crowds, the bombing of a populated area, and dozens more, are now expected to appear in our news feed, but serious changes to prevent these disasters rarely occur. But the question is, how many more children have to die? How many more families need to be destroyed? How many more innocent
The shooting in Parkland, Florida has been the talk in the news, newspaper and in schools. The shooter was mentally ill, and he bought a rifle legally, which should not have been allowed to happen. Many people such as the FBI, the president, the parents of Cruz, and Cruz himself are in the wrong for what happened. There needs to be more precautions so things like the school shootings and massacres can come to an end. Things such as gun laws, more FBI involvement and more security at schools can keep the schools safe because the government can keep stopping bad people from getting through all the “loop holes” and causing harm to innocent people.
Many schools in today’s society suffer from shootings at some point while children are attending school. Shootings in schools are not a new occurrence, and America has dealt with multiple shootings in public schools in which the lives of many children and teachers have been undeservingly taken (Elliott 528). Because of school shootings, this leaves our children in danger with no way to protect themselves. Gun violence in schools is an evident problem, and there are several ways to reduce the number of incidents, such as mental health screening for owners of guns, interconnectedness of communities, and more school funding.
It’s better to not leave it all up to chance and to stick with the public service of law enforcement, certified protectors, who can truly handle the job. The fight or flight situation, also known as hyperarousal, is a very detrimental affect to authorizing teachers to have firearms. It is a reflex, the go-to response in a stressful situation. And, what can be more stressful than a school shooting or having to shoot someone yourself? In this, giving teachers this responsibility, there is always the
Someone bursts through the school, into the cafeteria, the library, an auditorium, or even in a classroom. Every day the threat looms over us. Haunting us with its increasing numbers. We live in fear of a school shooter. And I will not stand for it.
A nonprofit group that attempts to prevent gun violence called “Everytown for Gun Safety,” released a statement about school shootings. The organization claimed that the school shooting at “[Marjory Stoneman Douglas High] is the 18th school shooting in the U.S. in 2018.’” (Cox and Rich). In less than three months, there have been eighteen school shootings. This shows that schools are no longer a safe environment.
Teachers did not go into their profession to be babysitters, and they certainly didn 't go into it to be security guards. Now society is trying to force them to be both. How anyone could possibly secure those weapons so that students could never obtain them would be a nightmare- and unrealistic? And to think that if a school full of teenagers can access a weapon in every classroom that violence would decrease is absurd. There are many negatives to teachers owning guns such as: cost of training and weapons, teachers turning against their students, and keeping teacher who has the gun a secret.
These terrible people make us all question what can be done to better protect the students and teachers that fill our nation 's schools. We need to make schools safer by, implementing more violence prevention, more school resource officers, and more metal detectors. Often times after a school shooting occurs, it is common to hear about the warnings signs that went unnoticed until after the tragic event had occurred. Since we have missed the signs, time and time again, we need to train one another to be more aware of what is going around us.
School safety is a very controversial topic in the U.S. There are many cases of people questioning the safety of schools. Recent school shootings raised concerns over school safety. While this has received a lot of attention, other things such as drugs, ara problem in schools. Even teachers have spoken out about the lack of safety of their schools.
