I am a registered nurse and currently hold an associates degree. I am very passionate about learning wound, ostomy and incontinence care (WOC) and will take the classes and state exams I need to earn my certification shortly after graduating TESU. Wound, ostomy and incontinence care needs are growing, especially in the home care setting, and this will allow me to apply for positions that are more tailored to what I wish to specialize in.
Each morning patients came in for assessment and the treatment team developed or altered existing treatment protocols. I longed to be part of this team, working to stabilize each patient so they could return home to pursue their goals. The nurses stood out to me as the team members at ground zero in the unit, working directly with patients, and advocating for them in meetings. As a Nurse Practitioner, I will provide this same standard of holistic care to my patients, taking into consideration their biological, social, psychological and cultural needs while developing and implementing treatment decisions.

Society’s Adverse Image of Nursing W0062731 St. Clair College November 2, 2015 In many modern forms of media, nurses are portrayed as doctors’ servants who do not participate in any form of pertinent life saving care. TV shows like Grey’s Anatomy, Scrubs and House all portray nurses as secondary characters to doctors rather than being colleagues who collaborate to benefit the patient’s well being. They depict doctors providing the majority of care while only using nurses for rudimentary tasks that do not require expertise. However, it does not stop with secondary characters; even when nurses are given a main role on a television show, they are portrayed committing illegal acts, being unprofessional and stepping outside

Ever since I can remember I have always wanted to make a difference and help anyone in need that I possibly could. From the start of my childhood, I can recall helping my mother care for my great grandparents, so they would be able to live out the rest of their lives from their home, instead of in a nursing home. As a young child it was extremely difficult to live with and watch my loved ones deteriorate as they got older, as their condition got worse and worse, and saw my mother having a difficult time keeping up with caring for both of my great grandparents 24/7, it put a lot of stress on the family. However, I am grateful to have been able to help my mother care for them. Growing up in such a caring and loving household made the situation
Personal Statement I am interested in studying for a degree in the Mental Health Nursing in your university, and I would like to make my career in this noble profession. I first considered nursing as a career some years ago, after I lost my father to a chronic kidney disease. The role played by the nurses in terms of care while he was in hospital and after his death was quite overwhelming. Although I had my first degree in Agricultural Economics, but this nothing in compare to the passion I later developed for nursing after the death of my father. I have since developed myself in health and social care sector by training and updating my skills.
After carefully evaluating my abilities, desire to widen and reform my knowledge and aspiration to advance my career, I wish to pursue a Master’s degree in Computer Science at College. In the years to come, I envision myself as a lead architect designing systems which will get smarter and more customizable through interactions with data, devices and people. My whole life has been a multi-faceted learning curve which has prepared me to take the academic challenges of the graduate life.
