The Civil War is a historical consciousness with a revolution from 177-1783. This was a war that determined the nation. It was the war that declared that all men was created equal with equal rights to liberty. According to Roark, J. L., Johnson, M. P., Cohen, P. C., Stage, S., & Hartmann, S. M. The Gilded Age was a period in which enormous economic growth and ostentatious was exhibited. During this period of the nineteenth century this group of entrepreneurs developed the working. This was following the American Civil War. The American Civil war begun in April of 1861. Schurz said the “blacks would need federal protection, land of their own, and voting rights until whites can lose their past”. The 14th amendment was put into place because it granted all persons born in the U.S naturalization. Which also dealt with voting rights. This brought about the 15th Amendment which prohibiting states from depriving any citizen of the right to vote because of their race, color or previous conduction of servitude. Later manifest destiny became into place it is the belief that the United States had a “God-given” right to aggressively spread the values of white civilization and expand the nation from ocean to ocean. This was dictated toward the Indians and other nation. The Indians were removed from their land so the reservation system came into play. Which was granted by the U.S. government. It states that land is given by the federal government to American Indians beginning in the 1860s. In the attempt to reduce tensions between Indians and western settlers. Following the war when land was being discussed dating back to 1840 when the overspread that expanded civilization. This involvement of territorial aggrandizement and progress of liberty brought about economic opportunity. The Dawes Act was latter introduced The Dawes Act was passed the 8th of February 1887. It divided up reservation and gave allotted parcels of land to individual in severalty to Indians. The reservation on various granted individuals parcels of land rather than members of tribes. The Civil war brought a great impact to the American people, despite the six hundred thousand lives that was lost. Emancipation Proclamation which granted freedom to the salves, but it was not until a hundred years later that they were actual set free. On the other hand, Horizontal Combination is when one company buys competing companies in the same industry. 2) The Dawes Act divided the land of almost all tribes into small portions that were distributed to Indian families who would adopt habits of civilized life to become American citizens. The remaining land was sold off to white purchasers.
The Dawes Act, which is also known as the General Allotment Act is how Congress distributed land to Native Americans in Oklahoma back in the late 1800s. It was passed February 8, 1887. The Dawes Act got its name from Congressman Henry Dawes. Dawes believed in civilizing powers of private property. Dawes also believed to be civilized was to wear civilized clothes, cultivate the ground, live in houses, send children to school, drink whiskey and own property.
Manifest Destiny was a phrase said by John O'Sullivan and it was believed that America should cover the whole continent. He also stated that the United States was destined and had a special purpose to extend its boundaries all the way to the Pacific. Many Americans thought the idea of expanding was inevitable as the Mississippi flowing into the sea. Manifest Destiny was basically the United States trying to move westward and cover the whole continent. There were many causes and effects of the forced removal of the Cherokee Nation.
Manifest Destiny is the belief of the nineteenth century that America was destined by God to expand westward. The author of Our Country: Its Possible Future and Its Present Crisis believed that God established Anglo-Saxons as the superior people whose purpose was to spread Christianity. (Doc B) This idea of spreading a superior culture or religion has been a motive for expansion for decades before this. Despite this support for expansionism, there were those who were against it.
The Dawes act of 1887 was a law that allowed distribution of Indian reservation land between tribesmen with the task of making whiteman’s image as responsible farmers. It was presented to congress several times by Sen. Henry L. Dawes from Massachusetts. On February 7, 1887 it was finally enacted under terms that the president presented. It was determined the recipients that were suitable were issued grants. The 160 acres of land was issued to head of households.
The Manifest Destiny was the 1800s belief that Americans should expand westward. The Manifest Destiny benefited the country and the people of the United States. For example, the United States doubled in size through the Louisiana Purchase (A Growing Nation Notes). All of the different purchases at this time made the US the size that it is now. In result of the United States growing, more people came to the country for a new beginning so it was beneficial to the people in the country.
Introduction I am currently enrolled as a member of The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and chose this essay topic to further explore my family’s background. My great-great grandma, Ora Marguerite McLellan, was born on December 27, 1904, and is listed on the Final Dawes Roll as number 554. She is listed as Choctaw by blood and was added to the Dawes Rolls as a newborn. My father, who is Native American and lives in Oklahoma, doesn’t have much knowledge or insight about our family or the trials they experienced. I felt compelled to discover more about my ancestors by completing this research paper and educating myself on Native American history.

But when they got their own land, they really became “farmers” this time. In the other way, this policy directly increased the average earnings for every farmer. In a time between the beginning of the of the Second Industrialization Revolution and the end of the imperialism movement, there were many changes in America. It is in this context that American ideals changed in the Gilded Age. Farmers and industrial workers responded to industrialization in the Gilded Age from 1865-1900 by forming organizations that allowed for their voices to be recognized and by influencing political parties to help get national legislation passed. Manifest Destiny is a unique, yet mysterious fundamental series of events in American history. No other country’s history contains such an eventful history as the United States. Amy Greenberg’s book, Manifest Destiny and American Territorial Expansion, provides documented evidence that settlers believed they were destined for expansion throughout the continent. In other words, many religious settlers believed that it was a call from God for the United States to expand west. On the other hand, people believed that Manifest Destiny vindicated the war against Mexico.

While their people have inhabited the United States for thousands of years, today their numbers are dwindling. From Columbus's arrival to America up until modern day life, Native American tribes have been oppressed by white settlers.
The livestock damaged the land and changed the way almost everything grew in. This endangered the animals and lowered the Indians' food supply. War between the natives and European settlers began quickly after the arrival of the first colonists and lasted for nearly 300 years. The wars were because of many reasons, one of them being land and the other, resources. Of course there was also the idea to convert all natives into Christianity.
In between that time the Dawes Indian Act happened in 1887. Politicians and religious leaders complained about the mistreatment of Indians. Federal legislation divided our Native American lands and among each of the Indian families granted each head of the family 160 acres. It forced us to become farmers working individual plots of land.
