According to the Huffington Post, as a developed nation, India physical environment is gravely insufficient and lags behind other developed nations in the area of public health. In the aforementioned WHO Study, safe water, clean air, safe workplaces, safe communities, good nutrition, physical activity and most importantly preventive health care equates to good health. In a New York Times article, “India is Caught in a Climate Change Quandary”, the article conveys that there are 1.3 billion Indians that live in India, which over 304 million do not have access to electricity and 92 million do not have access to clean drinking water, resulting in poor nutritional habits creating new health issues while exacerbating old health ones. The environmental problems that poverty stricken Indians are experiencing is severe and the political system prior to 2013 did absolutely nothing to elevate the pain. According to WHO, the rapidly growing industry boom in India has further increased the health risk of poverty stricken Indians. Unfortunately, due to high corruption within India’s political system and the lack of regulation, devastation to approximately 65% of the country’s land is the price that Indian people pay annually in

"Healthy People 2020 (HP2020) provides a comprehensive set of 10-year, national goals and objectives for improving the health of all Americans" ("Healthy People 2020", 2015, p. 2). It monitors and evaluates whether the goals of improving health indicators are met or getting worse. Community health problems should be analyzed in order to comprehend and effectively resolve the problem ("Analyzing Community Problems", 2015). Levels of prevention are phases wherein healthcare professionals can intervene in the health of individuals and communities. Primary prevention involves seeking ways to prevent a person from having a disease they can be prone to.
Social Determinants of Health Shelly Clavis Rutgers University School of Nursing Social Determinants of Health Defined Health concerns is an issue that most organizations have formed a pact to safely deal with the challenge. The main agenda focuses on the eradication of health inequalities that may exist in most countries. It is best suited that social determinants are accorded the much-needed attention since they affect a number of people. In assessing the factors that affect one’s health, genetic disposition, personal behaviors, ability to obtain healthcare and the overall environment in which an individual resides are to be considered. Social determinants of Health are issues that deals with the conditions that people have found constructed in a society and acts as a parcel in their lives, such as; growth, age and some of the more complex systems that construct a society which include economic policies and their systems that include social norms, development goals and the basic political system that they are indulged under (World Health Organization, 2008).
The term social determinants of health, can be defined as a ‘set of conditions in which people are born, grow up, live and work.’ These conditions include housing, education, financial security and the environment along with the healthcare service. (http://www.rcn.org.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0007/438838/01.12_Health_inequalities_and_the_social_determinants_of_health.pdf) These factors are affected by the amount of money, power and resources that are available at a global, national and local level. Summary of “The American Healthcare Paradox” “The American Health Care Paradox” focuses on health care and how the United States is suffering compared to their peer countries. The United States has spent billions of dollars in health care and the problem is still growing. The government is responsible for not following or ignoring the issue that we suffered with, in today’s society the healthcare system is failing drastically. The health care system has been a problem for several decades now, even though it seems that things are getting better it’s not.
Sir Michael Marmot put into perspective how serious social disparities are and how they influence health not only between countries but also, within countries. The issue is not medical care; in fact the United States spends the most on medical care. You would initially think the country in which spends the most on medical care must have higher health rates. Well, believe it or not, this is actually false, for instance, sixty-two countries had higher maternal health rates than the United States. This displays that a lack of medical care fundamentally is not the conflict, whereas social inequality is.
Having accessibility to any form of healthcare is important to everyone in the world. Despite the fact that it is available to most countries, it does not mean that it is available to everyone. Being able to possess healthcare is seen as a gift in some parts of the world. In some countries, healthcare is free and accessible for all inhabitants, while in other countries one would have to pay for their own health insurance. Specifically, when focusing on Italy and America, there are major differences regarding their healthcare systems.
It may surprise you that, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) and World Bank, at least 400 million people lack access to essential health services. They said, at least 6 percent of people in 37 low and middle income countries are living in poverty because they must spend the money for health. Health care services is the most importance thing that we need because it is not only for improve the health but also through individual behaviour and lifestyle choices such as quitting smoking, eating the nutritious food and living a healthy lifestyles.
There are many reasons on why the World Health Organization believed that Italy should be ranked thirty-five places above the United States. In general, Italy provides healthcare for everyone, even non-citizens, which results in an overall healthier society. Every citizen and non-citizen have their own sanitary cards which allow for them to receive care at any medical facility, and health costs are completely free for children under the age of fourteen. Yet the United States still spends more annually on health costs, and are still not able to achieve healthcare for each person and have worse overall health outcomes for patients (“Which Country Has the World's Best Healthcare System”). Despite both healthcare systems having different weaknesses, it is evident that Italy has been able to achieve a healthier society by providing every person free healthcare, while still spending a less amount of
Health inequalities are preventable and unjust differences in health status experienced by certain population groups. People in lower socio-economic groups are more likely to experience chronic ill-health and die earlier than those who are more advantaged. Health inequalities are not only apparent between people of different socio-economic groups – they exist between different genders and different ethnic groups (“Health inequalities,” n.d.). The situation in which people are born, grow, develop, work and age are affected by social, economic, environmental and most importantly political factors.
The theory that I will use to defend my stance of this issue is the social contract theory. What is public health? Public health is provided here to us as protection for our health and the safety of the community in which we live in. Now what is the social contract theory? The social contract theory is a shared agreement that is made between two parties in which we (the society) have to enter into Pactum Unionis and Pactum Subjetionis.
About 830 women died everyday in 2015 (WHO, 2015) (4) due to complications of pregnancy and childbirth occurring in low-resource settings most of which could have been prevented. The risk of maternal mortality is 33 times higher in a developing country as compared to a developed country. Alma Ata Declaration 1978 “Health for All” and Universal Health Coverage focused upon making health care services available to all without any discrimination on the basis of one’s sex, religion, caste, class, age and other such parameters. Taking health care to the remotest and far flung areas is one of the prime challenges which the Indian public health system is facing since independence.
