Revenge is Stinging In the words of the famous civil rights leader, author, and activist, Correta Scott King “ Revenge and retaliation always perpetuates the cycle of anger, fear, and violence.” It’s undeniable that revenge is always seeked when a person/loved one has been hurt or done wrong in some way. But can it be justified? It causes more anger, more violence, and pain. Revenge is not justifiable because it can easily come back to hurt you or hurt someone around you. Revenge can result in harm towards oneself. Macbeth went on a spree of multiple killings so he could be the king of Scotland, he killed Macduff's family so in return Macduff killed him. Some may find it justifiable, but it isn’t due to the fact Macduff countered violence …show more content…

In his neighborhood, there are 3 rules one has to follow if a loved one gets killed: No crying, No snitching, Revenge. While getting on the elevator to seek revenge he begins to see people that he knew who died to violence. Those ghosts begin to explain to him the consequences and possible outcomes of trying to seek revenge. From the beginning the thought of killing someone wrecks his brain. He begins to realize he is not capable of revenge, and begins to cry and go what seems like crazy. When Dani asks Will “ What if you miss? ” and Will responds with “ I won’t“ And she then responds with “ But you ever even shot a gun? ” “ Don’t matter” I said “ Don’t matter. '' Will repeating himself could be seen as him trying to reassure himself because he knows he is not capable of getting revenge. Also because Will is most likely not mentally stable due to the fact his brother who he was very close to, just got killed. Revenge is like pig’s blood or chilled monkey brains, it is best served cold. However Carrie serves it …show more content…
After bullying Carrie and being banned from prom, Chris sets up a bucket of pig's blood to be dumped onto Carrie's head. In front of the whole school, when it happened obviously Carrie is embarrassed and wants to seek revenge. As revenge she unleashes her powers and basically annihilates the city. She kills innocent people due to what one person does to her. She used her powers to knock down electrical lines and when it hit the pavements that had gas and water on them, it caused fires to start and burned down a lot of the town and killed people. “She would get them later. She would get all of them. Every Last One” The context of this quote is that Carrie wants revenge on the whole town, because she was always the butt of every joke. So she's hurting innocent people due to how just a few people treated and tormented her. It is clear that revenge never has a positive outcome. Not for the people seeking it, receiving it, or even the innocent people
Each character shares a commonality of being killed due to the ruthless cycle of gun violence. Every character plays a role in swaying Will’s decision of revenge. Certain characters had
At the prom, Carrie is very happy because she has been accompanied by Tommy Ross. As soon as Carrie and Tommy are voted queen and king of the prom, as evil Chris has planned to take her revenge from Carrie, they are asked to stand on the stage for the crowning, but both of them are showered by pig's blood that dropped on them from buckets above. Chris wants to shower carrie by pig's blood because she thinks that "pig's blood for a pig"(King 170). Tommy Ross receives his death by one of these buckets that hit his head. Then everyone laughs at her even the teachers.
This gives him some sort of trajectory of whether he wants to follow through or not because the biggest thing we learn is that like most people in the elevator, William doesn’t actually want to kill someone. He wants revenge but not blood on his hands, and it manages to tell us not only about him but about the rules and how
Will’s brother was murdered and he wants to get revenge on the person who killed his brother, Shawn. He then goes in the elevator that leads to the lobby of his apartment complex. Which leads to Will seeing ghosts. Although some may argue that Long Way Down should end by Will following the rules, the best ending for this story is Will breaks the rules. Will makes many different interactions with people who he knew that died.
Revenge not only brings pain to the victim but also back lashes to the seeker. For example, in my life I had a friend that hurt me. She betrayed me and kicked me to the curb. I was furious so I ignored her, didn’t talk to her, and was rude when she talked to me.
Revenge is a real thing in today’s society. It happens every day. There are different reasons for revenge from as small, as a small child stealing a stick of gum to a drug dealer murdering a nark. Regardless, taking revenge in itself may be for the greater good, or evil.
I think about guilt when I hear this, for example if you steal something from your parents. The guilt you might feel after the fact would eat you alive until it’s unbearable. In Will’s dad situation it would be way more intense than taking twenty dollars from a parent, because he stole someone's life away. This could have told Will that if he goes through with his plan, he could end up feeling so guilty it would eat him alive as well. Another convincing thing Will’s Dads said was this, “I didn’t know he wasn’t the right guy, Pop said a tremble in his throat.
Revenge can help us feel better about ourselves, but you must remember it will eventually come back to you. In the book Long Way Down written by Jason Reynolds, Will is motivated to get revenge back on Shawn's murderer but he has to realize he will soon be the next victim. I believe that Shawn is the most important and has the biggest impact on will. In Will´s family, they have to follow a certain amount of rules that are not meant to be broken. ´´
Revenge can lead to both violence and death Conflict between people or groups of people often result in revenge. Revenge is an action of harming someone as a punishment in return for what they have done to themselves or others. Violence and death are usually the result of revenge. This unyielding mentality calls for a neutral third party to intervene to mediate and solve the discord. Justice intervenes logically, ethically, and legally. It has to do with making up for a wrong that most reasonable members of the said society would agree is wrong versus the opinion of the victim who is seeking justice. Revenge could also be defined as, usually violently, exteriorizing negative emotions. It can express a fiery desire for fatality.
When he plans to get revenge, he goes into an elevator and his decision is quickly altered. In Long Way Down emotions affect the way that Will, Buck, and Frick all make decisions. Will’s emotions are affected by his brother dying, and also trying to get revenge. “ NO.3: Revenge/ If someone you love/ gets killed,/ find the person/ who killed / them and/ kill them.” (Reynolds 33).
There are many forms of revenge and there are many views on whether it is right or wrong and whether or not it can make someone feel better. In the article “Revenge: Will You Feel Better?”, Karyn Hall Ph.D. explains how no matter how powerful urge is to get revenge on someone because they have wronged you, the outcome usually only makes both subjects involved feel much worse. She explains how all revenge is rooted in anger and sadness. Hall makes the conclusion that “Maybe the purpose of revenge is in preventing certain hostile actions....”, meaning that if one gets revenge on another, it is possible that he or she has just intimidated the other enough to not repeat the same action that made him get revenge in the first place. Hall also believes
But he also has to uphold his idea of what being a man is, and that means following the rules, which clearly state that you must carry out revenge, no matter what. In Long Way Down, Will has to make a decision between what is right, and what society is pressuring him to do. While reading Long Way Down, one should consider the pressures Will faces from others, and what the gun means to him and what it meant to important role models in his life. Will is constantly being told what a man should or should not do. This is clearly demonstrated in The Rules.
