War is a controversial topic that is often debated on whether the war is necessary or not. Patrick Henry in his speech Give me Liberty or Give me Death, Henry attempts to persuade the Continental Congress to declare war on Britain to once and for all gain their freedom from the tyrannical power. In his speech, Patrick Henry uses rhetorical devices to attempt to convince the individuals at the Virginia Convention that was is the only option left to gain their independence from Great Britain. Henry builds pathos by creating anger and fear to persuade America that they must go to war to gain their freedom from the Mother Country. To create rage, Henry utilizes the anaphora “we have petitioned; we have remonstrated….” To enrage the convention.
