Is the Perigord Black Truffle Threatened by an Invasive Species?

Subject:
Plants by Name , Fungi

Description:
This 2008 academic journal article highlights the need for study of "ecological impacts of the intentional/unintentional introduction of fungal species" on the native resident truffle in Italy. It also discusses how the Chinese black truffle, "a novel invasive alien species in Italy," is an ecological threat for the Perigord truffle, because it can be found in China in ecosystems that are similar to those in central Italy.
