Amalgamated Transit Union

The Amalgamated Transit Union is is the largest labor organization representing transit workers in the United States and Canada. It is affiliated with the AFL-CIO. This site includes news and information about benefits, contracts, the ATU's leadership, its local members, and Canadian Council information. It also provides links to other unions and U.S. and Canadian government agencies and departments.

The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists

This site has address, telephone number and fax number information, as well as contact names. It lists day and weekly rates for Federation members for acting work in television work, including overtime rates, wardrobe fees, meal periods, commissions and extra rehearsal times.

From this site, you can access current and past issues of the online newsletter or the Locomotive Engineers Journal. You can also find out about education and training or the safety task force. Some sections of the site are for members only. The first page of the site contains a movie, which you can cancel while it's loading if you don't want to see it.
Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes

There are also BMWE Directories and information about some of the programs in which they are involved. Part of the site is for members only and requires a password.
Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen

"The BRS was founded in 1901 as a trade union representing railroad employees working in what was then the new craft of signaling. As railroads increasingly turned to the new technology of signal systems to improve the safety and efficiency of their operations, the BRS expanded and eventually grew into a national organization representing the men and women who install and maintain signal systems for most of the nation's railroads. The BRS represents nearly 10,000 members working for railroads across the United States and into Canada." This site includes sections on news, safety, health & welfare, publications, internet activism, employment, and significant issues. There's also a page that explains what signalmen do.

Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada

"CEP is one of Canada's largest unions, representing just about every type of worker, from coast to coast to coast. We work at pulp and paper mills, telephone companies, in the oil, gas, chemical and mining industries. We are printers, journalists, radio and TV broadcasters, graphic artists, hotel workers, computer programmers, truck drivers, nurses -- you name it, CEP members do it. The CEP was formed in 1992 through a merger of three smaller unions, and we've been growing steadily ever since. Today, we are 150,000 strong."
Congress of South African Trade Unions

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) consists of 19 affiliated unions representing 13 industrial sectors. Founded in 1985, it is the largest trade union federation in South Africa's history. It is "a partner in the Tripartite Alliance consisting of the African National Congress and the South African Communist Party." This site provides a historical overview of COSATU, links to its journal, various documents, press releases, a directory of Regional Secretaries, and other labor links.

The site is available in English, French, and Spanish. It includes information on news, issues, conferences, publications, and events.
American Federation of Musicians

Founded in 1896, it is the "largest union in the world representing the professional interests of musicians. The AFM works to improve musicians' wages and working conditions, and in support of all the arts and arts education." This web site provides local unions' web pages, FAQs on how to hire a musician, and articles on labor issues.
