Council of State Governments
http://www.csg.org/csg/default
The Council of State Governments originated in 1933 as a non-profit, multibranch state association engaging in "education and research of state governments." Its automatic members include key executive branch officials, members of the House and Senate, supreme court justices, and high ranking administrators for each individual state. There are also associate memberships comprised of many Fortune 500 companies (i.e. 3M, Chrysler Corporation, and Mobil Oil) that cost $3,000/year. Some membership benefits include CSG monitoring major trends affecting state government by utilizing research services available through The States Information Center (part of CSG, a large repository of materials), which provides a quick-turnover inquiry and reference service for the states and for CSG Associates. Also, the CSG is a vehicle for resource sharing and information exchange among state officials on recent publications, research projects, program developments and administrative actions. A few of the research publications and documents are available for the citizen to read on-line, such as the Issue Alerts.
