American Institute for Contemporary German Studies

"The American Institute for Contemporary German Studies (AICGS) is a center for advanced research, study and discussion of the Federal Republic of Germany: its politics, economy, culture, and society. Established in 1984 and affiliated with the The Johns Hopkins University, AICGS is a privately incorporated institute dedicated to independent and critical analysis and assessment. The fundamental purposes of the Institute are: a) to help develop a new generation of American scholars with a thorough understanding of contemporary Germany; b) to deepen American knowledge and understanding of current German developments; c) to contribute to American policy analysis of problems relating to Germany."

"The German Studies Association is the multi- and interdisciplinary association of scholars in German, Austrian, and Swiss history, literature, culture studies, and political science. GSA holds an annual Conference and publishes a scholarly journal -- German Studies Review -- as well as a Newsletter. Members are generally professors at universities or colleges in North America, although membership is also open to scholars around the world and there are several hundred members in Europe and Asia." Order Sons of Italy in America

Founded June 22, 1905 in New York City, Order Sons of Italy in America is the oldest and largest Italian-American association in the United States. The organization consists of 500,000 individuals from corporate executives and political leaders to factory workers and retirees. The OSIA mission is to preserve Italian heritage through philanthropic and social-educational programs that provide for the youth opportunities to learn about their heritage and to gain access to higher education. The web site points to Italian Heritage that gives a brief history of the Order and a biography of the founder, Dr. Vincenzo Sellaro; describes the Commission for Social Justice or the anti-defamation arm of the OSIA; and explains the work of the Sons of Italy Foundation which is a philanthropic institution that was established to preserve Italian American culture through educational and study programs both here and in Italy. In addition the OSIA web page has links to membership forms, national officers, 21 state chapters, headquarters staff, library, publications, and current happenings.

National Italian American Foundation

Located in Washington, DC, The National Italian American Foundation is the major advocacy group for the fifteen million Italian Americans who comprise the country's fifth largest ethnic group. The purpose of the NIAD is to preserve and protect Italian American heritage and culture by working with Congress and the White House to facilitate the appointment of Italian Americans in government positions; funding young Italian American students and businessmen and women so they can achieve their career goals; encouraging the teaching of the Italian language and culture in highschools and colleges; monitoring the portrayal of Italian Americans in the media; and developing cultural and economic ties between Italy and America. The site has links to staff email addresses, scholarships and grants, research guides, and outside resources that are part of the NIAF youth institute.

The umbrella body for all Canadians of Ukrainian ethnic origin. "The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) represents the Ukrainian Canadian community before the people and Government of Canada, promotes linkages with Ukraine and identifies and addresses the needs of the Ukrainian community in Canada to ensure its continued existence and development for the enhancement of Canada's socio-cultural fabric." This Web site has a profile on the Ukrainian Canadian community, information on Canada-Ukraine relations, links to UCC's membership organizations, and news releases.
