The Cotton Pickers
The band hated the name. Half a century later, band veteran Dave Wilborn was always quick to point out that the Goldkette management had forced the band to use "Cotton Pickers" -- with its down-South, Jim Crow implications. The name was supposed to be a temporary change to attract audiences when the band first played the Graystone. The band was such a success that it was stuck with the name for good.
