THE VOID

There was a huge vacuum for exciting avant-garde all ages' entertainment in Detroit. A lot of people had great intentions, but lacked in the areas required to open and maintain a successful business. I had seen Carl run a successful business with an almost magical atmosphere - very nurturing to creativity - where the staff, entertainers and customers were treated with respect and dignity. The Michigan scene seemed to be much more appreciated in other cities. When I went to Toronto or Chicago, I would see Detroit musicians and artists featured in record stores. After seeing record stores in Toronto use Detroit bands as a reference point, the void was obvious. Everyone was aware of this paradox, but all they were doing was talking and not doing anything about it.
