Goose Rocks Light

"North Haven, Maine"

Built: 1890
Automated: 1963

"This 51 foot tall caisson-type or ""sparkplug"" style, cast iron tower marks the east entrance to the Fox Islands Thorofare, a busy waterway between Vinalhaven and North Haven islands in Penobscot Bay. It originally housed a fourth-order Fresnel lens that was replaced with a modern optic when the light was automated. The inside of the tower contains three levels that served as living quarters for the keepers, as well as a watch room and a storage area."
