Mine Head Light"Loskeran, Co Waterford, Ireland"
Built: 1851 "This major sea light, built of old red sandstone, is located midway between Dungarvan and Ardmore. It has the highest elevation of any lighthouse in Ireland at 285 feet. Work had already begun on the Capel Island light when it was decided to suspend work on that light and build this tower on Mine Head and the one on Ballycotton Island. Mine Head continues to serve ships well along this stretch of coast. Capel Island, meanwhile, remains only a partially finished tower that nearly become a lighthouse."
