Lindesnes Light
"Lindesnes, Norway"
Built: 1918
"This light is 16.1 m (53 ft) tall and sits on a cliff along the southwest coast of Norway, making it 50.1 m (164 ft) above sea level. It houses a first order lens which reaches 19.4 nautical miles out into the North Sea. A light has been shown at this location since 1655, the earliest being a wood fire in a large, vented metal basket. In 1799 a stone building was constructed with the fire basket on top. The ruins of the base of that building remain on the site today. The present building also houses a weather station with weather reports being sent to Bergen every 3 hours. This is a very popular tourist location and about 60,000 people visit here each year."
