Helen Sekaquaptewa was born in a conservative Hopi village in northern Arizona, during a time of widespread Anglo influence. Sekaquaptewa was educated at the Phoenix Indian School. She still retains a deep interest in traditional Hopi ways and promotes its ways through her clan and family.
