Narcissa Owen was of mixed Cherokee and Scots-Irish descent and the daughter of the last Chief of the Old Settlers. She married a white railroad executive and was the mother of the first Native American U.S. Senator, Robert L. Owen, Jr. She was also an accomplished artist.
