Britton received her Bachelor's Degree in both History and Native American Ethnic Studies from California State University-Sacramento in 2002. Britton is an enrolled member of The Confederated Salish and Kootanai Tribes of the Flathead Nation.She was adopted away from her Reservation, but in 1996 she found her birth family in Polson, Montana. She is a grandmother of seven: six grandsons and one granddaughter. She writes children's books and poetry.
