Gerald Vizenor , 1934-

Chippewa

Gerald Vizenor was born in Minneapolis, but spent much of his childhood on the White Earth Reservation in northern Minnesota. Vizenor attended New York University for two years, transferring to the University of Minnesota where he earned his B.A. in 1960. His graduate studies include University of Minnesota and Harvard University. His career includes work for the Minnesota Department of Corrections, and the Minneapolis Tribune. Vizenor's teaching career includes professorship at Lake Forest University, Bemidji State College, University of Minnesota, University of California at Berkeley, and the University of California at Santa Cruz. Vizenor incorporates the Trickster in many of his writings.
