Tesuque -- Circa 1880, Height, 46 cm

Polychrome storage jar. The ultimate in Tesuque Polychrome exuberance of design is well illustrated by this characteristic big storage jar. Around the neck the motifs somewhat resembling a Greek fret and the diagonally hatched framing lines are noteworthy. Motifs on the body include cornstalks, tall keys , trident caps, cross-hatching, radiant sun symbols (or flowers), and solid scallops with proximal edging that are almost completely unique to Tesuque decoration.
