They demonstrate the character of a wide range of American topography, its forestation, aridity, shifting coastal dune complexes, and watercourses. This is a great general source for Internet accessible information made available by the Consortium for International Earth Science Information Network, an organization established by Congress to study global environmental change. This includes information prepared by CIESIN and also links to other sources. Among the sources prepared by CIESIN are thematic guides to current issues. There is also a client application for Windows and X-Windows available to be downloaded that can access a wide array of datasets called CIESIN's Gateway Another source is an index to an FTP catalog of unpublished and hard to locate papers on the environment included under the CIESIN Kiosk along with instuctions for downloading. Also accessible are a census analysis application, education related, and other information resources. The entire site is searchable by keyword.
