Southern Pacific eastbound Coal Train
at Helper, Utah
Three new Southern Pacific locomotives manufactured by General Electric bring a coal train down through Helper, Utah. The town of Helper is the site of a locomotive servicing facility and a small freight yard for Southern Pacific. Here extra locomotives are added to many westbound trains to assist them up the steep grades west of town. These locomotives, known as helpers, explain the origin of the town's name.
