Some children can potentially have speech, language and communication needs due to another condition, such as ADHD hearing difficulties and autism. This is why interventions are extremely important so that this is noticed early on. If not picked up on, this poses risk of them falling behind currently and not being able to access the full curriculum. They may get frustrated because they don’t have the word’s or skills to communicate how they are feeling. Friendships with their peers will be hard to make/maintain as they will be perceived as being naughty and this will have a knock-on effect on their social situations.

There are three prime areas of development that children learn through: physical, communication and language and personal, social and emotional. Together, the prime areas make up a child’s overall learning and understanding, also known as “holistic development”. When one of these areas are delayed, it tends to have a knock-on effect on the other areas because they all work together to learn and achieve. These prime areas also support the specific areas of literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and expressive arts and design. If there is a delay in one of the prime sectors, you can’t possibly expect the child affected to be able to move through and understand a more advanced, specific development province.
By helping children gain the ability to use language they can help children gain confidence and self-esteem I have seen this in my setting with children who have had communication and language needs. These children have gained confidence and their language is now at a level that they can interact with other children and not show frustration. This is because they can now express themselves. If the child can communicate this will help them with their confident and self-esteem levels as they can talk about how they feel.it is important for children to use their own language skills and not to listen to other all the time and this could put their development back. Adults should praise children a lot so they have the encouragement try new things but it is important you adults to give them feedback so that they can learn from right and wrong.
After reading Chapter 3 in our textbook, it brought light to some thoughts I have already been pondering as a future social worker. The text talks about the importance of a social workers language and communication. First, the text says that communication is essential between the social worker and client to maintain a positive relationship. I can’t stress enough to myself how important that is to remember. I see so much miscommunication and lack of communication in the world today, that it frustrates me.
For children and young people to develop positive relationships it is crucial for adults to model effective communication in the classroom. As a teacher or teaching assistant, you have the platform to facilitate social learning and lead by example. One of the main reasons why effective communication is important, is because it makes children feel happy and comfortable at school, and in your presence. Not only will this help children to thrive in a learning environment, but will also filter through to their lives at home and outside of school.
In the video Michelle Tompkins, who is an Early Childhood Education Teacher Specialist, expressed “ It’s so critical for children to have the relationship to their parents, to have the attachment to their parents, and to have the love and caring that their parents can give them, and communication is the key to that.” (Through Your Child’s Eyes” ASL, 3:00-3:20). Also, teaching a child or young child to sign language gives them the opportunity/courage to develop language skills quickly. Children would generally not develop those kinds of skills until they have tackle speaking or learning a spoken language.

So yes a child that has difficulty expressing themselves should be encouraged and patiently listened to. I would make sure this type of student is heard by making his or her classmates wait patiently. Not all students find it easy to speak most of them are shy they just need some nudging and lots of patience. Children who forget what they are going to say or forget the answer when called on just need some reassurance. I would give them time to answer if they still can’t remember I would move on making sure no one picked on the student whom forgot.
It can lead to very unpleasant behaviours like: depression and frustrating or other negative feelings. Parents who recognise some difficulties in speaking should consult with professionals that will be able to help kids and find their needs. From reading this article, I can encourage parent involvement in the intervention process and have proof to provide them suggesting that their help in this process has a strong effect on their child’s development. When working with early language learners and children with language disorders I will make as much of an effort as I can to include the parents in the process and be there for encouragement not just for the child but the family as a whole. I will provide assistance and guidance to the parents on how they can take some of the intervention goals home and how they can further their child’s development by continuing these efforts in the child’s naturalistic environment. The pieces of this article I would share with them are the results of the three interventions used and how this vocabulary gain affected a child’s use of symbols in joint engagement with the parents in a more naturalistic environment. Maybe if they are aware but don’t know the best practice like knowing the language or gestures and they are not always thinking about that one Deaf child.
