Plot of Film (A paragraph switch indicates a new scene / major event.): During the winter of 1776, after the colonies declared independence from Great Britain, the colonists (colonist army) were annihilated by both the British and by German mercenaries (Hessians.) As winter came upon America, the conditions made the colonists' chance of winning the war less. Even in the harsh conditions, the British still pursued the colonists. This mainly happened between New Jersey and Pennsylvania, at the Delaware river.
A small boy that was running (from either the British or something else) happened to see the colonists marching somewhere along with their sick and injured. While the colonists were marching, one of their cannons got stuck, and they left the cannon where it was, leaving a clue for the British to find them. On December 7, 1776, A general reports that 1/4 (1000) of their men are sick. Even after that report, George Washington was still determined to cross the Delaware River, to escape the British. If he had not made that decision, the British would have killed the colonists.
In order to cross the river, the colonists needed boats. They had asked a nearby proprietor for boats, and when questioned about pay, the Continental general

General Washington then attended a meeting to discuss their current position in the war. At the start of the war, 6 months ago, there was 21000 men fit for duty, and 32 pieces of artillery. 6 months later, there was less than 2000 fit for duty, and 18 pieces of artillery. General Washington sent 3 different armies to search for the British, One army, led by General Lee, had 2000 men, Another, led by General Gage, had 16000 men, and Washington's had 3000 men. When the other two armies went missing, Washington sent a search party, including the surveyor of New Jersey, to find them. The point of the meeting was to report their condition to

1. The book 1776 by David McCullough portrays the war in a realistic manner. It is written from a point of view that makes you feel like you’re right there with Washington as he writes all of his letters and does everything. The book was written to explain the war as not being always glorious, but being full of defeat. This book is a good book to read if you know absolutely nothing about the American Revolution.

Henry Knox once said, "Every friend to the liberty of his country is bound to reflect, and step forward to prevent the dreadful consequences which shall result from a government of events." On March fifth 1776 General Washington had a plan to force the British out of Boston. Washington ordered his men to bring captured cannons from Fort Ticonderoga through the snow, so they can be put at Dorchester Heights. Washington wanted to keep it under wraps. If the redcoats were to find out their plan they would easily be able to storm the fort.

Perhaps the most famous line from the Declaration of Independence, written on July 4, 1776. 1776 by David McCullough is about just that: the year 1776, though it does mention events in previous and following years, in American history. McCullough’s purpose for writing the book is very clear: to educate readers about the details of the American Revolutionary War from the view of both sides in and around 1776. McCullough achieves this through mostly logos, but uses ethos and pathos just as well.
Why would the Americans attack in the winter? It was dangerous and everyone knew fighting in the cold was a death sentence. 8pm in the morning, he ordered the first ambush attack on the Hessian’s guards. In total were 4 Hessians, and from there they charged into unknowing sleeping Hessian’s. Awoken, startled they grabbed a gun and fought the Americans.
There were many goals that the colonists had in waging the Revolutionary War, and an innumerable amount of those goals contributed to America’s political system. A few of their goals were to convert into a country free of a king, become independent, get rid of all loyalists, equal rights between men and women, and slaves wanted to be freed. A great deal of these goals were accomplished, although they were not very easy to carry out. “The nearer any government approaches to a republic the less business there is for a king,” (Document 1). One of the colonists’ main goals was to be free of the king of England.
By the fall of 1775, “the British were occupying Boston and the young Continental Army was holed up in Cambridge,” short on ammunition (“Gadsden Flag History”). In October, private letters were sent to the Second Continental Congress “that informed them that the British government was sending two ships to America loaded with arms and gunpowder for the British troops” (Gadsden Flag History). It is December, 1776 and over the course of the next 10 days we won two crucial battles. we defeated a intense garrison of Hessian mercenaries before withdrawing. We have been through alot, we have done a lot to survive. For the most part we have suffered tremendous casualties through all of the battles we have been through, but we’ve been through thick and thin and some of have survived. Sleet and snow is beginning to fall, after i crossed the Delaware River north of Trenton the previous night, i led the main body of the Continental Army against Hessian soldiers garrisoned at Trenton.
In Lexington 1774 the war began. Washington led his army with Commander Sir William Howe. “The shot heard around the world” had begun this fight. Washington’s army with men very untrained, they lacked food and ammunition but George Washington still somehow found the strength and confidence to show them that they really had a fighting chance. This Army won very few battles but was still had confidence they could win this one or die trying.
It is during this battle that Paul Revere and others made their famous midnight ride and alerted the colonist that the British were coming. Gordon S. Wood, “the preeminent historian of the Revolution”, is a well known American historian who has received several awards such as the Pulitzer and Bancroft Prize for his historical books. In his book, The American Revolution: A History, he breaks down the key events based on his experiences and knowledge on the Revolutionary period. Wood was born in Concord, Massachusetts on November 27,1933. Wood teaches at many liberal renowned universities such as Brown, Cambridge, Northwestern , and Harvard. Now being eighty one years old, he recently retired from Brown University and lives in Providence, Rhode Island.
Every morning when I woke up I knew it was another long day at work but once I walked outside I saw a group soldiers surrounded something or someone. It had seemed that George Washington was presented the Congressional Committee.(Powell,149). That summer, the summer of 1775, Washington and troops withdrew from Boston.(Background, 141). My first years at war were the first two years of the beginning of the war and it was rough maybe one of the hardest times in the war. (Background,141).
