What is the Heimlich Maneuver / Abdominal Thrusts? By Susha Cheriyedath, MSc Heimlich maneuver or abdominal thrusts is a technique used to relieve choking victims. The aim of the procedure is to dislodge a foreign object that is blocking the airway of the victim. It is named after the physician Henry J Heimlich who invented the technique in the 1970s. How is it Performed? To perform the maneuver, make a fist with your dominant hand and keep the fist’s thumb side between the belly button and sternum of the victim. But keep performing back blows and abdominal thrusts till the person receives medical attention. If the victim stops breathing or faints, perform CPR and chest compressions. Caution Abdominal thrusts should never be performed in infants under 1 year or in pregnant women. For choking infants, back slaps may be helpful, while chest compressions are recommended for pregnant women who are choking. Even though it is a life-saving procedure, it involves heavy blows and may lead to serious injuries at times. Once this procedure is successfully done, the victim should always be seen by a doctor to assess any internal damage due to the thrusts. Choking victims also need medical attention if coughing persists or they have a feeling that something is still inside their throats. The embalmer doesn’t want the deceased to have a stern, disapproving expression so he pushes one or two straight pins from the lower lip to the two front upper teeth. If that doesn’t work then he does what i feel is even more harsh which is to dislocate the lower jaw, drill holes through the upper and lower midline of the jaw, and run a wire through them. This is done often since the lips seem to not want to be together. If the corpse for some reason has a swollen mouth, neck, or cheeks.

Explain how you would teach purse-lipped breathing to an adult patient. It is important to assess the patient and determine that it is the appropriate time for teaching. The patient must be stable and the environment must be free of distraction. I will include the benefits of purse-lipped breathing in my teaching by saying that this technique will help to release the carbon dioxide that is trapped in the lungs and permit more oxygen. This will improve the quality of respiration by reducing the dyspnea and slowing down the rate.

It is 4:37 PM. As a mother places her seven-week old baby in a baby swing and the baby stops breathing. The mother has never taken a CPR class and has no idea what to do in this situation. If a particular technique is not working I transition to another position. No one technique is 100% effective. I have to be flexible and I continue to move until I get the person immobilized. Even during a physical intervention I make sure to use verbal commands and continue my verbal de-escalation efforts. I give myself the option to disengage or escape if safety is a concern and wait for others to assist if available.

This hypnosis method was originally developed as a hypnotherapy technique, but it has become more used by everyday people in the daily lives. The technique allows the individual to take more control of their lives and use these techniques to assist them in many everyday situations. There are many different courses available teaching these techniques, claiming that you can take control of others. This is true to some extent, and it is clear this form of hypnosis is real and effective. The process is relatively simple, but it will take time to master the

Breathe in. Now, hold it for as long as you can. You will eventually give up to my challenge sooner or later. Do you know that the longest time breath held voluntarily by a male was 24 minutes and 3.45 seconds? Even the best breath- holder will eventually grasp for air when he needs to.
Sex Therapy Treatment Several techniques have been developed and applied by sex therapists, including Kegel exercises (to strengthen the muscles of the pelvic floor) and Masters and Johnson's "stop-start technique" (to desensitize the man's responses) and "squeeze technique" (to reduce excessive arousal). To treat premature ejaculation, Masters and Johnson developed the "squeeze technique". Men were instructed to pay close attention to their arousal pattern and learn to recognize how they felt shortly before their "point of no return", the moment ejaculation felt imminent and inevitable. Sensing it, they were to signal their partner, who squeezed the head of the penis between thumb and index finger, suppressing the ejaculatory reflex
