Abigail is later presented as autocratic and flirtatious. This is apparent when she tells John to ‘Give’ her ‘a word’. The use of the imperative verb ‘give’ portrays Abigail as very authoritative and controlling – suggesting she is a confident and strong character (and implies the relationship to be rather one-sided). She continues to describe his word as ‘soft’. This implies that Abigail has a flirtatious and provocative nature (who desires attention from
Abigail exhibits different tones and emotions throughout the different letters that she writes to John. She embraces her emotions through her fears for the United States and her children, while she embraces these fears she also informs John of how she longs for him to reach out to her and for the next letter to come. Her longing for her husband creates a sense of anger towards the reader. Her tone changes from hopeful to cross as she speaks about her husband's absence. Abigail states in her letters called “Classical Parallels”, “I want much to hear from you.
You can never miss Abigail being a selfish liar ever, yet she has many reasons to cover her description, She took it too far when she tries and attempts to guilt trip John Protector into continuing their affair. Since Abigail has a huge amount of jealousy towards Elizabeth, and yet she doesn't want to admit it. Abigail is still deeply in love with John and is wishing he would end up feeling the same and leaving his family for her. John refuses many times because he wants to end the affair with her to protect his family. Act 1 pg 22 ”
Thousands of women have screamed at the top of their lungs, clawed at the patriarchy, and tirelessly fought for their rights as citizens of the United States of America. From the beginning of mankind, women have been labeled as inferior to men not only physically, but mentally and intellectually as well. Only in 1920 did women gain the right to voice their opinions in government elections while wealthy white men received the expected right since the creation of the United States. A pioneer in women’s suffrage, Susan B. Anthony publicly spoke out against this hypocrisy in a time when women were only seen as child bearers and household keepers. Using the United State’s very own Constitution and Declaration as ammunition, Anthony wrote countless

Abigail’s first major flaw in her character is lust. In act one she quotes “John I am waiting for you every night” When she says this she is explaining to her once lover John Proctor, how she waits for his return every night in hopes that he will return to her for love. As John tries to deny the love he once felt for her and
Abigail says to Proctor in Act I, “Oh, I marvel how such a strong man may let such a sickly wife be-,” then John cuts her off and says “You will speak nothin’ of Elizabeth!” (1270). In this Abigail is showing her anger to John about how he is now staying committed to his wife and trying his best to keep Abigail out of his life. When asked why Arthur Miller asked why he decided to make Abigail and John have an affair, he said he “…Could find no good reason why Abigail distinguished so vehemently between the guilt of a husband and a wife. So I took creative license with her character to make the connection between sexuality and politics more dramatic,” (Shmoop).
Abigail is consumed by the idea that John Proctor loves her. She considers that John’s kind actions towards her are more than just lust. Her acknowledgement that it would be a sin for him to love another woman besides his wife reveals that she believes that John Proctor has such deep feelings for her, which are undeniable no matter how wrong it may be. Though Abigail appears to be caught up in her idea of their forbidden love, her romanticized obsession is not enough to prove that her actions are completely motivated by her obsession of
Abigail William is an intelligent girl, she knows how to take control over people and forces them to follow her or do whatever she commands. Abigail's independence and skills of manipulation lead her to believe she can have anything she wants. She uses this confidence to try and win John Proctor over even though this will never happen and she resents Elizabeth because of
Hello, and thank you for allowing me to speak to you today as an anti federalist. I will be speaking about why the constitution, in its current form, should not be ratified. I would like to start today with a quote from one of our papers “When a building is to be erected which is intended to stand for ages, the foundation should be firmly laid.” As anti federalists we believe that the way our constitution, the foundation of our nation, is being constructed is incorrect, and primarily only beneficiary for the aristocrats. Over time we have obtained information and experienced first hand how fragile our foundation really is.
Abigail is convinced that John Proctor is in love with her and is desperate for him to show her that. She is greedy for his love and affection which is why she uses every opportunity to try and get him to admit to his love by flirting with him, such as when she says “Give me a word John. A soft word” (22). Abigail is also desperate for power within the community. She gains her power by manipulating the other girls into following her and pushing her sins onto other people, such as when she taunted Mary Warren in the courthouse to save her own skin by saying “Envy is a deadly sin, Mary” (115).
