Until the early 20th century, many women lacked rights that men had. The movie Iron Jawed Angels shows the women’s efforts to gain the right to vote. The main character, Alice Paul, is a suffragist who asked President Woodrow Wilson, “Mr. President, how long must women wait to get their liberty? Let us have the rights we deserve” (Alice Paul). When the President first went into office, he did not support women's suffrage. By asking the President how long women must wait, Alice Paul refers to the the seventy years that women have fought for suffrage.
