There was tension, blood, and tears with the Thirteen Colonies and Great Britain. This was due to the American Revolution that started in 1765 and ended in 1783. So how revolutionary was the American revolutionary war? Well, first what does revolutionary mean? Revolutionary means that things have changed dramatically.
“A little rebellion now and then is a good thing” is an important quote from Thomas Jefferson about the American Revolution. From the Townshend and Stamp acts to the Battle of Bunker Hill, there were three main causes of the American Revolution: The Proclamation of 1763, Townshend and Stamp Acts, and the Battle of Bunker Hill. The first main cause of the American Revolution was the Proclamation of 1763. It created a line that kept the colonist east of the Appalachian Mountains.
The colonists rallied behind the idea of “no taxation without representation.” In 1765, Patrick Henry explained to the Virginia House of Burgesses that, “We can under law be taxed only by our own representatives . We have no representatives in the British Parliament.” (Document 1) His argument was simple, they can not be taxed by Britain without representation in the British Parliament, and his solution was simple too, do not obey them.
On April 19, 1775, the American Revolution started, It started off with the battle of Lexington and Concord. The battle of Lexington and Concord was won by America. The goal of the revolutionary war was to create an independent nation. The revolution resulted in the separation from Great Britain. So, how did the American Revolution change the states' opinions on freedom?
May 5, 1789, marked the beginning of the French Revolution. This was because the French common people, The Third Estate, felt underrepresented in the assembly where King Louis XVI attempted to increase taxes. Three months later, in August, as the revolution continued, the French representatives came together as the National Assembly and created the “Declaration of the Rights of Man” to inform the social body of their rights and duties so that they could hold their government to maintain those rights. It outlined their principles of equality, liberty, and democracy. This was to be used as a new constitution and the basis for the revolution.
The first main cause contributing to the Revolution can be cited as the imposition of various harsh acts and taxes to generate more revenue from the American colonies in order to meet the expenses of the French-Indian wars. Sugar Act, Stamp Act, etc. are some examples of these acts. With these impositions of such unacceptable acts, the unrest in the colonies started brewing which ultimately led to the great Revolt. Boston Massacre was another important reason/cause and contributing factor behind The American Revolution. All these causes were fuelled by the fact that no representatives were allowed to represent American colonies to raise their voice in the British parliament, and their needs were continually suppressed by the British administration.
The American Revolution was one of the most influential pinpoint in American history. However, I do not think that much changed for the lives of an average American. It did make a significant mark from a political perspective: a newfound country turning against King George III, one of the most powerful leaders in the world at the time. For men, there was a social reform that occurred post revolution. Since the colonies were fairly poor and were fighting solely for a cause, there was not much economic growth during this time.
The British government was not looking for the best of the people. They were only thinking about what they wanted; the government was not interested in what the people wanted so they decided to make decisions on their own, which resulted in changes that form the United States today. Because of this, they were justified in rebelling and declaring independence. One reason why the colonists decided to rebel and declare independence was because of taxation.
The colonists felt that since they have no representation in Parliament there was no reason for them to pay taxes to Great Britain. “Parliament attempted to control colonial
To top it all off, the colonists had no representation in parliament whatsoever. This made the colonists angry, and was one of the reasons they separated from the British
In U.S. history there have been many turning points and each of these has had historical circumstances that have led to them. Many of these turning points have resulted in political, social, and economic changes. Two of these turning points are the American Revolution and George Washington’s presidency. These two turning points have made a huge impact in United States history. There were many historical circumstances that led to the American Revolution, one of them being the Proclamation of 1763.
The American Revolution: The American Revolution started between the British and the thirteen colonies of the United States of America, and was called the American war. The British were the ones to start it. The British brought unwanted laws and regulations into the colonies, which angered the colonists. The colonists felt that these laws and taxes were violating their rights because they had no say or vote in deciding them.
The Revolutionary War, also known as the American Revolution, was a war fought between Great Britain and the thirteen colonies of America from April 19th, 1775, to October 19th, 1781. The war was caused by a set of political, social, and economic factors that constantly brewed and created tension between the thirteen colonies and Great Britain. These issues caused the Patriots, who fought for independence, to be concerned they might lose their way of life at home, which they wanted to protect. Although, when it came to what the Patriots wanted to protect, it differed from colony to colony depending on their economic and societal values.
The most well-known factor American Revolution is the unfair taxation of colonists, but there were numerous factors that caused the colonists to overthrow the British authority in the colonies. It can be argued that there was no substantial grounds for the American Revolution, but British king was very unjust in his decision with the colonies. These grievances can be found in The Declaration of Independence and include taxation, closing off trade ports, difficulties with soldiers, and the king refusing to acknowledge problems occurring the colonies. The most acknowledged element of the American Revolution was the British taxes placed on American colonists. Most colonists were poor farmers who, even though had taxes that were much lower in
