Evening Grin & Tonic. To begin, I’d like to say how honoured I am to have been allowed to audition for a role in the theatrical production of Macbeth written by Shakespeare in the 1600s. My chosen soliloquy will be from Act 2, scene 1. At this point of the play Banquo is explaining to Macbeth that since one of the prophecies became true, that if all the others were bound to do the same that his allegiance would always remain faithful towards the king rather than him. Prior to this scene Lady Macbeth demands that her husband commit regicide against King Duncan however he asserts her that he no longer wishes to kill him. This leaves her outraged, makes her begin to question his manhood and label him a coward. This then motivates him to commit the treacherous deed. Overall, the message of this scene is that greed and an ambition for power corrupts us, no matter how ‘pure’ we believe we are. PERFORMANCE

In this scenario, Macbeth is represented by Biggie and King Duncan as Tupac. This demonstrates the power struggle between both rappers and how they idolised the title ‘king of rap’ which Tupac held. I have chosen this alternative reading due to the dynamic between both relationships being extremely similar. An example of this is how biggie betrayed Tupac’s trust by allegedly having him killed, the same thing that Macbeth did to king Duncan. I have chosen to alter the setting using this context as it will make it more accessible to a modern audience due to most people now having a general understanding of the feud between the two rappers and the story still circling the
