Food Fight
According to the article "Food Fight" by Laura Anastasia, in this generation, kids have too many calories going into their bodies every day. The amount of food that is thrown away is outrageous. Children throw away so much food that, at the end of the school day, they end up hungry. Kids need to start caring about how the food they eat will impact them and their future. Soon they will end up in the hospital, regretting their childhood. Kids prefer junk food over healthy and nutritious food. Therefore, we need to change the menu to include foods that are healthy but tasty.
New nutritional requirements for school meals are required because, according to the "Behind the Changes" section, children throw away more than 30% of their

This is a fantastic approach to encouraging youngsters to eat them instead of having nutritious but unappealing items. As a result, there ought to be less food wasted and less hunger at night. Additionally, this will give children the nutrients and protein that their growing bodies require. I know this because in the article "Food Fight," subsection "Behind the Changes," it states, "... reports that its students toss 65 percent of their fruits and vegetables." The stated evidence tells us that, given the amount of food that is being wasted as a result of children's dislike of eating healthily, altering the nutrition requirements is an effective method to encourage children to consume their …show more content…
Others refer to kid obesity rates, which have tripled in the U.S. during the 1970s, as stated in the subheading "Keeping it Healthy." Additionally, "one in five American children between the ages of 12 and 19 is dangerously overweight." The children's health suffers greatly as a result of these school lunches. I disagree with the other side because, although it may result in issues, I think that preparing lunches for students in the cafeteria is somewhat unhealthy. However, I wouldn't drastically alter my eating habits; instead, I would make sure that students were getting enough protein and food, regardless of whether or not they enjoyed the
But changing it to where the students wouldn't even want to eat is a bit much. To me, and I'm sure many other students changing the menu for a healthier one would be a bad idea. We would think, if you take what we like to eat what will we eat? We may think, why take something that's already bad and make it worse? We already like very few items on the menu so why change it?
I believe that the lunch menu at schools should not change to a more healthier lunch. In fact, it would most likely cause a lot of issues between parents and the school board. Students would not like the fact that all their favorite foods are gone. Also, students would start packing their own lunches at home and bringing their packed lunch to school. Some kids might just go without eating all together.
This is why it’s bad to start healthier lunches in schools. It would be a bad idea to start healthier lunches, because students would start eating even unhealthier lunches or not eat at all. When my school went to healthier lunches I started to get bigger because the schools food was nasty so I brought a lot of candy and junk food for lunch. I also knew a few people that didn’t eat and wouldn’t eat all day until they got home. I think school lunches should be normal and if people choose to eat healthier they can bring healthier food instead of forcing the kids to eat healthy.
A recent study found that children who regularly ateschool lunches were 29 percent more likely to beobese than their peers who brought lunch fromhome. Health science has advanced greatly since theinception of the National School Lunch Program in1946. When a 2008 Institute of Medicine committeecomprising 14 child-nutrition experts examined dataon the content of school lunches in the UnitedStates, its findings were stark. The updated standards aligned school meals withthe 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans byincreasing quantities of fruits, vegetables, andwhole grains; establishing calorie ranges; andlimiting trans fats and sodium. Children consume almost half of their total caloriesat school, and the National School Lunch Programprovides
One of the reasons that people agreed is some parents are paying unhealthy school lunches that their kids are eating. In the article it stated “Less Fat, More Veggies”, it said, “It recommends meals containing fewer calories, less fat and salt, and more fruit, vegetables
Many students do not care for change in their everyday lives, but a great place to start is in our school foods. When suggesting to change school lunches i feel it is a smart idea. School lunches a lot of the time are frozen foods that need to be heated up and are fast, easy meals that do not take long to prepare. I know that i am sick of eating the same old foods week after week. So changing our lunches will be something new, and change can be a good thing.
Corcoran theorizes that “[s]tudents who eat regular, healthy meals are less likely to be tired, are more attentive in class, and retain more information” (4). Furthermore, Anderson assures that “when schools serve calorie-rich food on test day, students perform better on tests.” (4). Anderson’s claims of fact and claims of policy convey a persuasive tone as she finds ways to bolster elementary students’ physical and mental
In conclusion schools should not change the lunches because they don't have the power to tell students can or can't eat, they don't have the time and money, and finally because they are not allowed to put a limit on how much a student can eat due to the “No Kid Hungry
If a school has unhealthy lunch, the kids might be happy for the time, but their life won’t be happy in the future when they grow up to be obese. All of this information proves that schools are a lot healthier now and they should keep it this way for many years to come. This healthy food also gives kids enough energy to get through the day. If they eat unhealthy lunches they won't have enough energy to make it through the day so they won't learn as much as they could if they eat healthy school lunches. In the end, schools are better off with healthy foods rather than unhealthy foods for many
Some schools have gone down over the calorie amount they should serve in the meals “High school lunches top out at 850 calories, for middle schoolers it’s 700 calories, and elementary students receive just 650 calories (5)”, the amount of calories of school lunches should be higher, but without students wanting to eat the health program is going to be difficult to get this amounts
thus Principal and administrators finally noticed that kids hate their food and want the food that they will eat and not throw
Thirdly, making the school lunch unhealthy is not going to make the child have a healthy lifestyle. Some kids could go to school and have a healthy lunch and then go home and eat an unhealthy dinner. When kids go home and eat they are not thinking about whether the food is healthy or not. All kids want to eat is junk food and candy whether it is at home or school.
To begin with, the taste alone of school lunches is beyond unsatisfactory. The meals provided by public schools are not appetizing. There exists a tangible disconnect between the enticing, nutritious meals advertised on the school board’s menus and what the students actually receive—pathetic portions and lukewarm meals slapped onto a tray. Children’s complaints about school lunches are often seen as trite. However, while common, they are not any less accurate.
School lunches should be nutritional and the meals at home should also be nutritional and balanced. I would say the FDA is trying to create some balance with the snacks. They are making sure that the foods we eat are actually what is promoted. This problem is affecting everyone not just children. Everyone should contribute to making nutrition an important factor in life and we should work together to decrease the amount of
Imagine a school that has multiple healthy school food options, that is worth standing in line for. I think that all schools should have a healthy school lunch. It's very important to have nutritious school lunches so that we can be healthy and have energy during the school day. I think we should have better and healthier school menus. Our school menus are very high in cholesterol and saturated fat.
