Andrew Jackson was the 7th president of the United States. Jackson has perhaps one of the more disputed presidents. Who was Andrew Jackson? What did he do during his presidency? Was he a successful president? Andrew Jackson’s presidency stirs up quite a bit of controversy, and for good reason. Andrew Jackson was an important president and had his moments (both good and bad) through the highs and lows of our country. To fully understand Andrew Jackson’s time serving as president we first need to know where he came from and how he got to be president, one of the most important and critical jobs in this country. Andrew Jackson was born on March 15, 1767 from two Scots-Irish colonist parents. His father died three weeks before Jackson was born. Since the area between North and South Carolina had not been officially surveyed it is not known exactly where Andrew Jackson was born, although Jackson claimed to be a South Carolinan. But, in the election of 1828, Andrew Jackson defeated Adams handily and became the president of the United States on March 4, 1829. In order to remove corruption from the government, President Jackson launched investigations into Cabinet offices and departments. Jackson withdrew those who were careless about the handling of money, since during Jackson’s tenure as president large amounts of money were trusted with government officials.
