How one mentally approaches a situation in life can determine the outcome more than several other factors combined. For example if you're going out for a sports team and you have confidence, and a determined attitude, you may be able to beat out someone who has been playing the sport longer than you. In the book Animal Farm by George Orwell and the movie Chicken Run by Mark Burton the aim of the animals was to achieve a self governed life, free of humans. Although both have failures and successes, ultimately Chicken Run ends up more successful than Animal Farm. The main reason for these different outcomes is the mindsets and values of the characters.

Because of these differences the animals are not able to form a cohesive bond, and are not able to work together for the good of the farm. From the very beginning of their new freedom a power hierarchy begins to appear on the farm. The pigs are slacking off in jobs, and being bossy towards other animals. The animals also have made a list of commandments to follow in order for the farm to be successful which the pigs slowly break throughout the book. Benjamin, the apathetic donkey quickly takes note of what's going on but doesn’t care to mention it to any of the other animals. His pessimistic mindset is what holds him back. Maybe he thinks no one will believe him, or maybe he just truly doesn't care, either way he never spoke up and the pigs were never stopped. Boxers' determined, loyal mindset works positively for the physical being of the farm. No one works harder at building the windmill than Boxer, doing the work of 3 horses combined. His mindset has the adverse effect of making him care for the farm so much that he is unable to open his eyes to what is truly going on on the farm. He thinks as long as he keeps telling himself “Napoleon is always right” and “I will work harder” everything will be ok. “Boxer would never listen to her. His two slogans, "I will work harder" and "Napoleon is always right," seemed to him a sufficient answer to all problems.”(31) Napoleon's …show more content…
The chickens, especially one chicken, Ginger, have been plotting an escape for a while. They have had various ideas on how to escape, none seem to work. Ginger is a determined, assertive, and optimistic character. The difference between Chicken Run and Animal Farm is that all of the chickens in one way or another have the same determined mindset as Ginger. One of the roosters, Fowler, is skeptical about everything “not like his days in the RAF”. Unlike Benjamin in Animal Farm though, by the end of the movie he is able to change his mindset about the escape, and even accepts the duty of flying the plane that ends up getting the chickens out. Another character, Mac, is a very smart, engineer chicken. She shares the same mindset and Ginger about escaping the farm and even though she doesn't have the same leading personality, is still able to use her knowledge to help the chickens to escape. One chicken, Rocky, comes in and acts like he can fly, willing to teach the other chickens to fly as well as long as they let him hide from the circus he escaped from. At first Rocky is two faced, self centered, and obnoxious. Even though he isn't necessarily a protagonist at first, he still shares the same mindset as Ginger and the other chickens. He was so determined that he was able to escape the circus he
Some will blindly accept their lack of freedom but others will vehemently fight for their right to pursue happiness, would you? The story of Animal Farm follows a group of farm animals that revolt and drive away their human leaders. They change the new system and proceed to create a system where all animals are equal. This can be compared to the society of Anthem where people's rights are restricted. Freedom and will is taken away and directed towards the common goal of always helping others and being a group.
Persuasion in Animal Farm causes the animals to be blinded by the pig’s lies and leads the farm to a system of class distinction. The passage from Animal Farm,” About this time, too, it was laid down as a rule that when a pig and any other animal met on the path, the other animal must stand aside” (Orwell 65), shows how pigs were more important in Animal Farm. This show class distinction because it shows that pigs were more important than the other animals. Also, this shows what happens to you when you get all of the power, you become corrupt and create a system of class distinction. Another quote from Animal Farm that shows the hierarchy in Animal Farm is, “He believed that he was right in saying that the lower animals on Animal Farm did more
That will be attended to. The harvest is more important” (Orwell, par. 75). Napoleon is not faithful or a sufficient leader because he only cares for himself, this is also shown when he sells Boxer for money to buy alcohol, but lies and says he will be going to the hospital for proper treatment. “Squealer appeared, full of sympathy and concern.
I read a book called, “Animal Farm” written by George Orwell. The book is about animals on a farm who are overworked and aren 't treated well. Then, an insurgency made up of animals with pigs as their leaders, rebel against Mr.Jones (owner of the farm) by driving him off his farm. The animals try to make the perfect life for themselves, but that doesn’t go as planned. The animal farm then starts to fail.
A necessity to ensure an ideal and functional community, as demonstrated in George Orwell 's 1945 novel Animal Farm, is the ability to detect and prevent corrupt conduct, read, and the will to challenge authority, which the animals do not possess, therefore putting them at major fault. One of the main factors that leads to the downfall of the farm and Animalism itself is the blatant stupidity that the animals, excluding the pigs, possess. They are overly dense to the point where the concept of corruption is near unfathomable, and thus cannot detect it or act upon their suspicions. Their willingness to believe Squealer 's persuasive speeches whenever doubt arises indicate that the animals are unable to think for themselves. “The other animals understood how to vote, but could never think of any resolutions of their own” (Orwell 19).
Chicken Farm vs Pig Farm: Problem Solving While animals can be given human characteristics, including problem-solving, both good and bad problem-solving is exhibited in both Animal Farm and Chicken Run, despite the plot being different because of the animals in both stories not knowing how to problem-solve correctly, the animals having a social hierarchy that prevents working together to problem-solve, and many times in both forcing the problem-solving onto one character. Problem-solving is an important skill, integral to survival. Though, there is such a thing as good problem-solving and bad problem-solving. There are major differences, but you can find both examples all around you.
Nevertheless, Animal Farm and 1984 still have their differences, such as the differing time periods, but the main ideas of corruption and lack of ethics become evident through Orwell’s use of characterization and symbolism. Although each story has
Since the animals were like blindfolded, no one made the connection between Boxer's being taken away and the pigs suddenly having more money. The contrast between what the animals believe, what the narrator actually is talking about, and what the reader knows to be the truth, fills one with an anger. (“Animal Farm: Animals Irony”) Animal Farm satirises the breakdown of political ideology and the misuse of power. The major players are animals but their failings are all recognisably human. They begin with an idealistic attempt to form a new society, liberated from the tyranny of humans and founded on the principle of equality and freedom for everyone, but it all goes wrong as the pigs take over.
The relationship between the animals on the farm and
The characters of Animal Farm are rather flat, and show no development or change throughout the book. Whereas in Anthem, growth is seen in main characters such as Equality 7-2521. In the beginning, Equality 7-2521 feels like he is missing something in life, but does not now what. By the end, he has fallen in love with the Golden One and realized the truth about his society. Also, at the end of the book he discovers the word ‘I’ which he had never used previously in his life.
In the novel Animal Farm, by George Orwell, and the novel Legend, by Marie Lu, both books show, through character developments, how living in an oppressive type of environment, under a corrupt government style forms the characters’ similar traits/personalities and similar beliefs. In both books the citizens are under a government style where their leaders are power hungry and have it better than everyone else does. Both leaders are the wealthiest and eat and sleep in luxury compared to the people living under their power with no money and food. In both novels the characters have a chance at being killed at any time by the government that they are living under.
Animal Farm’s intentions were to be an allegory of the Russian Revolution and both were uses of propaganda in similar ways. In the Russian Revolution, the Bolsheviks used propaganda to declare their laws and rules to the Russian population and their authority of the Russian Revolution. In Animal Farm, propaganda was mostly used by the pigs. The use of propaganda allowed Napoleon to persuade the animals that Snowball was the reason their hard work of the windmill was wasted and that he was the reason of all the negative aspects of their lives. Also, the use of propaganda also benefited the pigs into having to do less work at times or them gaining the most apples or milk.
However, Orwell depicted, “The animals would still assemble on Sunday mornings to salute to the flag, sing Beasts of England, and receive their orders for the week; but there would be no more debates” (Orwell 54). In the past, the animals had the ability to speak out at the farm Meetings, even if they chose not to. However, now that Napoleon took this right away from them, he got to be in charge of all the decisions for the farm and no one could contradict him. As Animal Farm developed, the pigs slowly disregarded animals’ rights and opinions, and the farm subtly gained more dystopian
Animal Farm by George Orwell is a story about animals that rebel against their owners on a farm. They then try to solve problems on how to run a farm. One theme in this story is ”Not everyone is equal; some people believe that they are more superior than others.” This theme is demonstrated by Napoleon, he’s a dictator and makes all the rules in the farm to fit his needs. Another theme in this story is “People deserve to have their own thoughts and ideas.
Some animals had more power and influence which caused a struggle of power between some animals. The animals were all different species; each of them were raised to do different jobs. They had different intelligence levels and some of the animals like Boxer were strong and worked hard while other animals guided work but used their intellect to further the farm. Different jobs were looked up to and respected because of their wisdom and some of the jobs were reserved for certain people because of their power. It was assumed the animals with wisdom would govern the farm as shown, "... the pigs, who were manifestly cleverer than the other animals, should decide all questions of farm policy."
